Adopt an ITR Robot

April 5th, 2006

Probably some of you might want a companion at home. If yes, then Speecys Corporation had done a very good job. They have created the first integrated family ITR robot, Internet Renaissance Robot which is capable of following the footsteps of radio, TV, PC, and mobile phone to become the fifth major form of household media.

This worlds first humanoid robot to be integrated into the family, connects to a dedicated server via the Internet to download “robot content” that it presents to the user with its voice and movements. With an adaptor, the IEEE 802.11g compatible bot will be able to download content from a mobile phone web browser.

ITR is outfitted by 2 speakers and 168 LEDs which is fixed on its chest and hands. The robot is powered by a built-in rechargeable lithium polymer battery, and is equipped with USB and serial ports, a Mini SD slot and audio connection port. ITR is 30 cm (12 inches) tall and weighs 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs).

It cost roughly around $1600 and that will be the price of a low cost notebook. Hmm…i would still go for the robot if im bored at home. If you have a 3 years old kid at home, who might just grab the ITR and bring it to the bathroom for a bath, i would give you an opinion to think twice.
