Coke and Mentos Kills

March 30th, 2007

Remember the Coke and Mentos experiment? I received an email saying that there are two died in Brazil after eating Mentos and drinking Coke together. It’s really dangerous, please inform your friends and family about this, in the case they did not know about it. Here some experiment pictures after the jump.

Explanation from Wikipedia:

When Mentos are dropped into soda, the gelatin and gum arabic of the candy dissolves and breaks the surface tension. This disturbs the water mesh, so that it takes less work to expand and form new bubbles. Each Mentos candy has thousands of tiny pores all over its surface which function as nucleation sites – perfect places for carbon dioxide bubbles to form. As soon as the Mentos enter the soda, bubbles form all over their surface. They quickly sink to the bottom, causing carbon dioxide to be released by the carbonated liquid with which they come into contact along the way. The sudden increase in pressure pushes all of the liquid up and out of the bottle.

notice that Re#7 said he “was chewing” mentos which was not acting the same way as the experiment. How about trying swallowing mentos following with drinking Coca Cola? Now we’ll see whether he is immortal or not.
