Gmail, Google Maps, now Google is coming to our TV!!!

Dubbed the Google TV (*duh!), it seemed that Google wants to show something at our living room. They’re gonna bring regular TV channels (*obviously), web videos (*YouTube 1080p in our living room? Brilliant!), and most interestingly, Android apps with Live Updating! Oh My God!

But according to Google, it’s not easy. Why? Well, they gave 3 reasons:

1. They dumb down the web for TV. You’re re-creating the web. “It’s WAP all over again.” “We need to find a way to bring the entire web to the television.”

2. “They’re all closed.” Once you can go anywhere on the web, you don’t want to go back.

3. The solutions today make you choose between web or TV. If you have to switch between the two, it’s over. You’ve lost users.

Therefore, Google wants to fusion both web world and reality TV into what they called “a single seamless experience”

Hi TV, this is Web, and Web, this is TV. Say ‘Hi” please.

Well, in simple, u can watch conventional TV channels, search streamed web videos, record upcoming shows, tweet what you’re watching, and… Oh, did we say tweet?!? There’s simply so much you can do with it, it’s crazily fun! Facebook games on your TV, yeah you heard it right! Photos viewing on any social websites, listen to streaming music (Pandora?) while having your candle light dinner, and oh its so obvious they support Flash. This is not Apple anyway. :)

And err…the specs?

• Integrated Wi-Fi (*Wireless-N?), and Ethernet (*Gigabit or not is unknown yet).
• Connect your existing cable of satellite box using HDMI, IR blaster for remote control, IP protocol to sync Google TV and your satellite box.
• “A stronk processor, dedicated GPU, and surround sound” sounds good? Sounds like ION2 with Dual-Core Atom to me.
• A keyboard and a pointing device (*this is getting more and more like a uber powerful nettop).

“Our hardware partners have come up with designs that you’ll love, and you can use your Android phone to control your TV when it’s tethered. That includes voice search. You can also have multiple remotes tethered simultaneously.” – Google. Well obviously they don’t make the hardware themselves. Asus perhaps?

How about if you find a cool website or video on your phone? You can directly push it your TV and watch it.

Another cool feature is that Google is publishing the IP protocol, which means you can make nearly anything into your TV’s remote, as long as you can connect them.

It runs on Android (*obviously), Chrome as browser (*again, obviously), and Flash 10.1 plugin for Chrome. Most importantly, Android apps! With that, many crazy things are possible.

There’s already an app to run out-of-the-box. It’s called YouTube Leanback. Yeah, that’s what it means, literally. Just run Google TV, lean back and relax. It starts up and plays videos according to your favorites, your subscriptions, and those recommended by your friends. It plays accordingly to your usual viewing style and preference too.

It’s going to be sold at Best Buy. The expected release date would be in Fall.

Developers can now enhance their sites for Google TV. Android Market, Google TV SDK, and TV Web APIS will be ready in early 2011. Open Source will be in Summer 2011.
