Google makes our search, “our” search.

May 25th, 2010

Google makes our search, our search.

Google is getting better and better with their services. Last time they started the Gmail, and expanded its capacity greatly until other services had to follow suit. Later they enable SSL encryption on their products ranging from Gmail to Google Docs and others.

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) connections encrypt data that travels between your computer and that particular site. There would usually be a web address starting with “https” or a browser lock icon when surfing SSL encrypted sites, this technology is regularly used by online banking sites and e-commerce websites. Other sites may also implement SSL in a more limited fashion, for example, to help protect your passwords when you enter your login information.

“When you search on https://www.google.com, an encrypted connection is created between your browser and Google. This secured channel helps protect your search terms and your search results pages from being intercepted by a third party on your network. The service includes a modified logo to help indicate that you’re searching using SSL and that you may encounter a somewhat different Google search experience, but as always, remember to check the start of the address bar for “https” and your browser lock indicators. – Google Blog”

With this watch you won’t lost your car key anymore – it starts your Aston Martin DBS!

May 24th, 2010

With this watch you won’t lost your car key anymore – it starts your Aston Martin DBS!Jaeger-LeCoultre’s AMVOX2 DBS Transponder watch has been market as “With this watch you won’t lost your car key anymore – it starts your Aston Martin DBS!”. Wonder what that means?

Well I’m not sure if all Aston Martin DBS owners are Bond series fans. But this watch can only fit them. This is because besides telling the time of their meeting, this special “ultimate watch” can start their DBS. But don’t you worry on others wearing this watch to unlock your car, as this watch is only sold in Aston Martin dealerships, and only they have the authority to “tell” that specific watch to “interact” with the supercar. Freedom Driver let’s patients with severe heart problem goes home

Freedom Driver

Charles Okeke is a guy that needs a heart transplant. But due to the 3000+ waiting list, he has been lying in the hospital for over 2 months, purely relying on a 400-lb machine.

But now, Charles can finally go home, thanks to a miracle backpack called the Freedom Driver. The Freedom Driver is a revolutionary machine with function of the 400-lb machine in the hospital, but shrinks into a backpack size.

Not that this thing does not comes with any down side, but people still doubt things regarding its power supply, and whether it will only maintain the heart and not the liver and kidney functions too. It has also become an additional item to maintain for the doctors. And the bills are sky high. Priced at USD 125,000 per pack, and USD18, 000 maintenance fees per year, not everyone in the 3000+ list would want to go home with it. I just hope the Reactor Arc version will eventually come. Your hand is now your mouse.

May 24th, 2010

Your hand is now your mouse.

Back then when Tom Cruise was showing off how to use our fingers to access the computer screen, we all drooled over such a uber-cool technology. But now we have all lived long enough witness it as the technology starts to get uncovered.

MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) researchers said that, by using a pair of very simple yet colorful Lycra gloves, with 20 irregularly shaped patches in 10 different colors, applied in front of a webcam, it can generate a unique pattern with every wave of the hand or flex of the finger. Combine that with a database full of gestures and translate that into commands, you can now interact with your computer like Tony Stark did it.

“This gets the 3-D configuration of your hand and your fingers,” says Robert Wang, a graduate student in the computer science and artificial intelligence lab at MIT. “We get how your fingers are flexing.” Wang developed the system with Jovan Popović, an associate professor of electrical engineering and computer science at MIT.

So, is Microsoft’s Natal and Sony’s Move based on this? Or they are using some million dollar research instead?
