When gaming, wireless mouse has always been avoided due to polling and latency issues. As always, copper wins hands down over 2.4 GHz spectrums. But of kush, everyone knows that wireless game controllers and mouse are always more convenient over wired controllers and mouse. Now, Microsoft has developed a ‘hybrid’ controller, and has already patented such design, using infrared, Bluetooth, or RF technologies alongside a wired (possibly USB) connection and switch between the two “without permanent disruption to an ongoing game.”
Windows Phone 7 will be hitting retail is just about few months’ time now. Engadget had a phone with Windows Phone 7 OS build-in, courtesy of Samsung, and had a review of it. So far the review has been a mixture of greatness and few let downs. For instance, there’s no copy’n’paste clipboard, and there’s no multitasking for 3rd party developed applications.
But other than that, the phone’s been very snippy and super-fast in response. The design and layout is also very refreshing, very much drifted away from the typical icon styles of Apple’s iOS and Google’s Andoird. More like Microsoft’s Windows Start Menu style cascaded in 2D but with great 3D effects at times. Watch the video below to have a good idea of how it turns out.
Looks like Apple’s in a software update frenzy lately. It was not long ago that iTunes 9.2 hit the download page to enable iPhone 4 syncing. But then, this 9.2.1 feels more like what 9.2 should be. Perhaps they rushed the 9.2, and continue developing on the 9.2.1. For such a small update, the changelog sure is long.
iTunes 9.2.1 provides a number of important bug fixes, including:
Disables older versions of some incompatible third-party plug-ins
Addresses minor issues with dragging and dropping items
Addresses a performance issue when first syncing to some devices with iTunes 9.2
Addresses an issue upgrading to iOS 4 on an iPhone or iPod touch with encrypted back-ups
Addresses other issues that improve stability and performance
Allow users to organize apps on the iOS 4 home screens into folders using iTunes
Few years ago calling while driving has been a very big offence for motorist. Back then, not many mobile phones have the texting features; what’s more not many own a mobile phone. But fast forward ten years, and every Tom, Dick, and Harry owns a mobile phone. Therefore it is so common to see people using the phone while behind the wheels. But oddly, it seemed slow for governments to start implementing ban on texting-while-driving, though a few had already done that.
I guess Apple really made some impressive marketing impression onto many people. Few years ago when Nokia roll out dozens of video-calling capable phones, nobody actually go and have fun around with it, calling their friends from any weird places. It’s as if video call didn’t exist yet. But now with Apple FaceTime, all of a sudden everyone’s FaceTime-ing their friends, from every odd corner of the world.
Check out this video of a FaceTime call, from the oddest place of all, the ocean, where there’s totally no radio coverage and no free Wi-Fi for you to leech. Video calling from an isolated oceanic point, done by the Pegasus crew that’s embarking the Pacific Cup 2010 en route to Hawaii from San Francisco. It was halfway between SF and Honolulu, where there’s no land within 1,000 miles, and the captain fire up his FaceTime using satellite connection, and show the mainland crew the conditions.
Vid-Atlantic and OWLE has been working on a combo adapter to attach your iPhone 4 with real lens for DSLR, so that you’re iPhone 4 can take DSLR-quality photos. What started as a quick and less-than-perfect mod by a Jeremy Salvador turned into a great collaboration between 2 companies. The video below is shot using a Canon EF 50mm f1.8 lens and an app called “Almost DSLR” for iPhone. Check out the video for the magnificent results.
I guess the folks over at iHome have been trying very hard when designing this product. But you can’t blame them for the effort, as they’re up against zillions of other companies in this over-saturated market. What about the function? Fairly simple, that you’ll actually laugh off your chair. FM radio, alarm clock, a dock, and that’s it. There’s no mention of charge-on-the-go function, but I hope it does, or the product will sink into oblivion like the rest. I mean, who would want a 7-inch slate shining on your face whole night?
We all know that safety helmets are meant to protect us from harm, but one should also know that you’re still prone to injury even when you’re wearing the ‘invincible’ hat. But now, there’s a new ‘hat’ that will tell you you’re bleeding, and how deep is your wound and injury, when you get into some sort of accident.
Mozilla finally gets its Firefox Home approved by Apple, and is now in the iTunes App store. The Firefox Home is an app which allows you to sync your desktop browsing session that you left there to your iPhone, and hit the road while continuing surfing. Sounds like a cool idea right?
