AppleSkin 520: iPhone or iPod Touch?

Here’s something that I would call “turning nothing into something”. Creative idea combined with smart engineering, that’s what the AppleSkin 520 is all about. It looked to be a very simple skin for your typical iPod Touch, but somehow there’s a place for you to slot-in your SIM card.

The AppleSkin 520 is a GSM skin that has an IC board with an Infineon GSM radio chip onboard. Somehow, some way, it’s able to connect your iPod Touch to read the SIM card on your AppleSkin 520, and with the help of their customized app, you’ll be able to call your friends with your iPod Touch! Genius isn’t it? You won’t even be locked to a sole carrier like AT&T!

There’s a tiny 800mAh battery lying around somewhere in that skin, that will allow you to talk to your friend for 4 and a half hours, or standby time of 120 hours. Seriously, a marvellous creation indeed. Price is expected to be within $44 to $74, but I guess it’s going to be tough getting the app approved by Apple, so I guess jailbreak’s the way. How good is the reception, nobody knows. At least you won’t have the ‘death grip’ issue i guess.
