First trailer for U.S. Top Gear emerge!

The U.S. Top Gear has been under quite some scrutiny, getting dropped, changing hosts, and many more. But now the first glory trailer for North American’s version of the wacky ‘lol-able’ automobile show is out! With the trailer out, it seemed that this time they’re getting it quite right, and that Tanner Foust, Rutledge Wood and Adam Ferrara will be winning viewers’ heart and making it big for the show too. Let’s just hope they won’t end up with too many complains for wrecking up sponsors’ cars like how the Australian Top Gear end up initially. The long-awaited U.S. version of Top Gear will be aired on The History Channel, with the similarly successful formula of cool tests and bizarre challenges, yet not forgetting those amazing super car reviews as usual.

The show’s challenges would actually be the centrepiece selling point of the show actually. In typical Top Gear culture, the hosts will never agree with the director, and would be put into challenge to find the best $1,000 car (as seen in the trailer), and putting the trio into a “moonshine run” dirt course for a great car. The ride selected for the teaser is Ferrara’s, the airborne 1976 Cadillac Deville Calais seen above (it could be a ’75, but we’re pretty certain that’s the ’76 grille pattern). How does a malaise-era Caddy handle a landing after catching that much air? About as well as you’d imagine – this isn’t the make-believe world of ’70s cop shows, after all. So far it seemed capable to put out some great laughs like their European counterparts.
Bottom line: The hosts exude great chemistry and the motoring action is pretty much everything you’d want and expect from a program calling itself Top Gear. What’s missing here is the American Stig, the long lost twin of the European Stig. Some says that he’s wanted in 17 states, and that he flips horizontally, whatever that means. Well, all we know is, he’s called the Ameri-Stig, I think.
