It seemed that Samsung is serious about challenging Apple. They already have a PMP running on Android. Now they’re giving their PMP a ‘Galaxy S’ look. With a 4-inch AMOLED screen, a glamorous 1GHz processor (is that really necessary?), 3MP camera, and Wi-Fi connectivity, we have a direct competitor to Apple’s iPod Touch! With the 3MP at the back, it’s even a competitor to the upcoming iPod Touch with FaceTime. Watch out Apple, somebody’s behind ya.
There are plenty of OCR (Optical Character Recognition) apps out there for iOS and Android that’ll snap pictures and then convert the image to text, in most foreign languages. But Pleco brings it a step further by doing it in real time, live! Damn useful when you got yourself a Chinese girlfriend, or is heading China for some business. Pleco can translate text in real time using the live image presented on your phone’s camera display. However, I doubt it’ll work well if the background’s exposure is too low, or the handwriting is awful.
Yes we’ve seen lots of Android smartphones, and some tablets too. But PMP (Portable Music Player) running on Android is rather rare. Samsung was the first to load Android onto their Yepp-YP-MB2, but now Philips seemed to have followed their footsteps with their latest GoGear Connect PMP powered by Android too. It’s a rather nice direction to drop the proprietary OS in favour of Google’s offer, as things get more ‘global’ and much well taken care off instead of in-house development which might even cost more too. Panasonic might have launched their big-ass 3D camcorder which is capable of recording 3D HD videos thanks to an attached lens, but Fujifilm has done it in a better package, this time with no need for a lens. What’s more, the 3.5-inch display panel behind it is capable of displaying 3D videos that you just shot! That seemed like this Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W3 will give a huge blow towards Panasonic. Tata, the famous Indian company that manufactures the budget mini hatchback Nano in India, is invading Europe next year with two new EVs. Not to follow their low-budget hatchback, Tata will be going somewhat upmarket in the designs and packages, by launching the better looking Indica Vista for green-conscious Englishmen and Scandinavians by early next year, alongside the Ace, which is a commercial electric mini-truck. It’s good to see that more car manufacturers will be stepping into the EV cycle. Mother Nature might be pleased by this, as the Toyota Prius is getting rather dull. Over here at 2dayblog, we all love EVs as it’ll save Mother Nature (*besides saving my sky high petrol bills) so we hope there’s more affordable EVs out there.
Back in Computex 2010, everyone was trying to show off their prototype tablet running on either Windows 7 or Android. But somehow the hype has chilled down. Now, of nowhere, MSI’s WindPad 100 has resurfaced with a better build design that seemed to be rather ‘final’ and ready for production. MSI’s slate design has seemed to mature, and is waiting for its final showcase at IFA in Berlin in about a month’s time, before mass production starts. Read more…
Crazy wacky ideas always seemed to come from the unpredictable Japanese. Last week we saw a vending machine that’s so high-tech it’s fitted with large-ass touchscreen panels. Now they’ve also incorporate high-tech stuff into the machine, by placing a robot inside an ice-cream vending machine! Check out the video above to see Mr. Cool Roboto make an ice cream. Just a few pinches on what flavour and toping that you wish, and he’ll sincerely make you an ice cream with a smile, albeit slow at his movements. Maybe Mr. Roboto is getting old. But slow and steady always win the race. Sadly enough, that does not win the heart of the ten kids that’s impatiently queuing up at the back.
Nokia is now ready to put your name in the list, and ship one unit of N8 smartphone to you at the end of September. Sadly that’s the only thing coming in the box. No fancy and free Bluetooth headsets or whatever, only the manuals and some cables, plus the adapter.
For more info of the Nokia N8, check out our previous post.
SNAP (Social Network Analyzer for Privacy) by BIT Systems does one thing and one thing only: it looks at your Facebook profile and then “grades you on how visible you are to the outside world.” Of course, you can always just go into Facebook itself and look at your privacy settings, which would save you the steps of downloading an app and using it to login to your account, but at least the thing is free. And it does provide a handy and thorough tutorial on Facebook privacy in general. Hit the source link to take it for a spin. Read more…
Some time ago, Toshiba showcase their concept Libretto, which is essentially a netbook, but with no keyboard, instead having two touchscreen panels on both side of the book. Now Toshiba’s letting loose this concept, but for a limited run. You’ll be paying $1099.99 for this concept dual-screen wonder which looks awfully like Microsoft’s Carrier, but not one though. For that one grand plus, you’ll be getting a Pentium U5400 processor, 2GB of DDR3 memory, a 62GB SSD, Wi-Fi N, Bluetooth, integrated webcam, and powered by Windows 7 Home Premium (32bit). Let’s not forget the twin 7-inch WSVGA touchscreen panels. Exciting time my friends!
