NEC’s new monitor is eco-friendly.

Eco-friendly has been the ‘in-thing’ for some time now, as everyone is so obsessed with ‘Green-products’. Not that it’s a bad thing, and I won’t complain if the new product can actually save some pounds off my monthly bills. NEC’s new monitor has those all over it. Their latest Full HD monitor ‘MultiSync E231W’ is labeled as eco-friendly. This 23-inch LED-backlit monitor is compliant with Energy Star 5.0, TCO 5.0 and EPEAT Gold, and consumes 40% less energy compared to conventional CCFL-backlit LCD monitors.

Not only that, it also provides 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution, 25,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 250 cd/m2 brightness, 5ms response time and comes with VGA, DVI and DisplayPort connectors. Sounds like back then when all the monitors and mouse and keyboard and whatever is slapped with the ‘Build for Vista’ or ‘Vista Ready’ gimmicks. Well the monitor is all your for €299 ($390) and might help you save some on your bills too!

Microsoft’s Adaptive Keyboard is one cool stuff to type on

August 16th, 2010

When Microsoft sells some stuff, many complained about it. But when they don’t sell some, others rant over how they should mass produce it. Well this is one of the limited stuff that only a few students will get their hands on, unluckily for you and me. The few lucky students participating in this year’s UIST Student Innovation Contest will be given free rein to do whatever they like with the keyboard, and possibly be rewarded with some few grand for their hard work and effort.

SkinnyBytes Releases New Power-over-Ethernet Computers

Now this is not something that you see every day. Talk about innovative ideas and the engineering behind it. SkinnyBytes has unveiled a new lineup of PoE (Power-over-Ethernet) Computer, which is available in 8.9-inch to 18.5-inch models. PoE is not new, but you hardly find anyone that implements this. Power-over-Ethernet computers are the ultimate Eco-Friendly computers consuming 90% less power than a traditional computer, drastically reducing your energy bills. Also, if this goes with the new CAT E6 standard that Samsung and Co. tries to push, we’ll have a standard cable for nearly everything soon. Network data, video and audio data, and power all using the same cable. Sounds like heaven for cable management perfectionist. All of these PoE computers are compatible with IEEE standard 802.3at for Power-over-Ethernet, which describes providing up to 30 watts of power to a device over a standard network cable. What’s more, these computers come with a touchscreen display that makes these systems ideal for business and schools. It’ll be good to mass produce them for front desk computers and cashiers.

MSI Wind Top AE2280 is your perfect computer for everyone in the family

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit

I usually don’t quite trust nettops and All-in-One computers. Besides the iMac, the rest in the market pretty much are’ scamlicious’ products that run on netbook-like low-spec hardware. But this time around, manufacturers have seemed to solve some problems putting decent specs into these miniature computers. Things like heat and size have become matters of yesteryear as build-process goes down to 32nm or lower which removes heat and size issues. Though, some of the hardware is still pretty ‘weak’, but not this MSI Wind Top AE2280. Read more…

Motorola Droid 2 ripped apart to 24 pieces of glory… er… nevermind.

Traditions are traditions and we as believers should act up and follow the traditions in order to keep it alive. The folks over at iFixit have done it again, this time to the newly launched Motorola Droid 2 which got teardown. Here’s 24 pieces of ‘exciting’ chips and circuit boards for your viewing pleasure. Amazingly enough, the internal construction is almost exactly the same as the Droid, despite Motorola’s near-doubling of the nuclear reactor inside, and also the Wi-Fi N. You’ll find a nigh-identical logic board, speaker, camera and LCD screen – not to mention the exact same battery, which means original Droid owners will have a handy swap. Not that you’d necessarily want to do the same to your new handset – its days like this we’re glad iFixit is here to take that bullet for us, just in case.

Head over to iFixit for the full glamor of the teardown.

Possibly world’s highest speeding fine ever.

Possibly world’s highest speeding fine ever.

Just because major portions of the German Autobahn have no speed limit doesn’t mean you can drive as fast as you want anywhere in Europe. In fact the German government has already place speed limit in certain areas of the Autobahn, due to outcry from ‘environmentalists’. Where there are posted restrictions, most European countries take speeding very seriously and smack hefty fines and your shiny metal butt. The latest ‘innocent’ victim is a 37-year-old Swedish man who was clocked at 290 kilometres per hour (180 miles per hour) on a motorway between Bern and Lausanne in Switzerland. Read more…
