How it feels like to cruise at 366 mph, your pants merely inches on the ground

Spectre Performance Team is a greedy team. Why? Because they want to break the 400 mph barrier record for a four-wheel, gasoline-powered vehicle. But you’ve got to respect them, as they never give up. Last year, their long metal stick with four wheels set a world record at the SCTA World Finals for the speed of 330.569 mph. This is made possible thanks to the twin-engine speedliner, which has a displacement of 1,026 cubic inches (that’s 16.8L for you, which is similar to the displacement of Bugatti Veyron’s W16 engine). With the additional of twin turbo bolted on each engine, they managed to achieve a total output of between 3,200 to 4,000 horsepower.
After the 330 mph record, they weren’t satisfied, and continue to improve that insane engine, and bring it to the salt flats at Utah this year. At Bonneville, they manage to push the Spectre Speedliner, nicknamed “The Infidel”, way up to 366 mph, and breaking three records in two classes while they’re at it.
“This is the purest form of motorsports in the world,” said Rosenbaum. “There are no limitations. It’s all about imagination and a dream. Speed Week was an incredible experience, I joined one of the most exclusive clubs on earth and we set three records – but we remain focused on breaking the 400mph barrier and becoming the fastest gasoline powered car on earth. So we’re going back, in one month, with more power, safer parachutes and one goal: 400mph.”
