Mobile phones should come with a “Don’t txt and drive” warning label?

Many statistics have shown that distracted driving is a big problem, not only in the States, but worldwide. Many accidents, lethal or not, are largely caused by distraction from handheld devices – cell phones, smartphones, media players, and even e-Readers. Transportation Secretary of US Ray LaHood has called for some sort of visual warning on phones alerting users to the dangers of using the devices while behind the wheel.
However, the suggestion isn’t likely to evolve into a full-fledged motion by NHTSA. LaHood simply made the comment off-hand during an interview, but that doesn’t mean that mobile phone makers weren’t paying attention. The handheld phone industry has said that it will meet with LaHood to discuss the possibility, though its products come with a warning about being careful while operating them.
While this might be a good move, would it really help? I don’t think so. It might be better off if you stick some sort of warning signs in the car’s windscreen or at the back of the car for the busy guy behind you to see.
