iOS 4.1 almost ready, iOS 4.2 coming soon.

While announcing the new range of iPods last week, Apple also announced the upcoming iOS 4.1. It will boast a number of bug fixes with some other rather notable additions. The proximity sensor issue and weak Bluetooth issue will be fixed in this issue. What’s interesting is that Steve Jobs also stated that the iPhone 3G’s performance will be ‘improved’ with this version, unlike the previous iOS 4.0 when it ‘killed’ the 3G. Read more…

AMD hopes to slaughter Intel’s Atom with their Ontario APU.

When AMD acquired the famous dark force of graphic chip developer ATI, they had a wild dream of fusing together graphic chips with CPU processors, creating a totally new hybrid species that’s supposed to be stronger than both Zerg and Protoss. They’re hoping that this new APU species will eventually let AMD win the ‘rather impossible currently’ war against chipzilla Intel. Read more…

The origin of Android’s mascot

Google’s Android logo, or mascot to be precise, is a cute little green robot-like thing. Now how does this come by? Why not draw Android’s mascot like Bender? He’s a robot too! Albeit a rather rude one at that. Well obviously the designer of Android’s mascot was playing this game, many years ago I think. Read more…

AMD’s upcoming ‘Caicos’ card previewed.

I’m sure not many would be bothered with this, since it’s just an entry-level card with a low-profile passive heatsink. Chiphell has posted some photos of what seemed to be reference card for AMD’s upcoming Radeon 6300 series entry level card. Codenamed “Caicos”, which is named after the Caicos Island, this will probably, be the replacement for current Radeon HD 5400 series cards. Read more…

Quantum physics adds twist to chess

Quantum physics, the mysterious concept that is only comparable to the Big Bang theory, has been making huge waves of debates and spurn out many new concepts and ideas. They might even create reverse-engineering for food, or help us win the fight against zerg rush. Who knows? The unpredictable nature of quantum physics has been so unique, that it has been mimicked by Queen’s University computer scientists to invent a new version of chess AI. Read more…

Buffalo serves up USB-powered portable 3D Blu-ray player in Japan

It’s been a common practise these days to not include the ODD in the laptop to keep the sexy looks of some slim notebooks. Well, netbooks also have no ODD to begin with. But don’t you think you’re missing something sometimes? The need to watch that damn Blu-ray movie in the super-boring long-haul flight! Now Buffalo has just given you a sweet that will cheer you up, if you’re in Japan or nearby.

Their latest BP3D-PI6U2-BK is an external ODD capable of spinning your latest 3D Blu-ray Disc! Yes, you heard it right, 3D disc! With just a USB socket, you’ll be able to run this on your XP / Vista / Windows 7-equipped PC or notebook. But I’d like to remind you, that I hardly find any netbooks right now capable of running 3D 720p movies smoothly. A very gentle reminder. Well, if you’re interested, next month seemed to be the month for you to get it, with a price of ¥28,500 ($338). Well, 3D hasn’t been really cheap anyway.

You may also buy it here, if you’re in the US.

The creators of the Unreal Engine and the games that run on it have brought their tech to the iPhone. Gives a new meaning to ‘Gaming on iPhone’ right? Epic Games is now letting iPhone owners see how well their engine works with a free demo, Epic Citadel. Soon, gaming on an iOS device might be the in-thing to do. Read more…
