Let them watch this video, and try to explain that they’re the sole champion of a one thousand kilometre journey challenge.

Sharp announces two new Galapagos e-reading tablets ready in December

Sharp announces two new Galapagos e-reading tablets ready in December

Sharp has just announced a new line of e-readers, and even naming them Galapagos in honour of the evolution the company believes they represent. The 5.5-inch Mobile version (pictured above) has a delightfully dense 1024 x 600 LCD screen, while its 10.8-inch Home sibling offers a very decent 1366 x 800. There’s 802.11b/g WiFi on both, while the littler slate is also enriched with a navigational trackball. Sharp’s emphasis here really seems to be on the cloud-based ecosystem it’s creating for these “terminal” devices — 30,000 newspapers, magazines and books have been lined up for its planned December launch and an “automatic scheduled delivery” facility will help you get at them as soon as the latest issue’s ready for consumption. Sadly, we should note that this is specifically tailored to suit the Japanese market, which makes an international release seem somewhat unlikely.

Android-based AlessiTab home tablet gets November release in Italy

According to Design Boom, the AlessiTab by Stefana Giovannoni is now set to roll out in Italy sometime in November (instead of this month), and it will run €399, or about $535 (a full hundred euros than previously expected). The Android 2.1-based tablet includes a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen, a DVB-T digital TV tuner, built-in WiFi, and a webcam for video calls. Notably absent, however, is access to the Android Market, but Alessi promises it’ll provide a selection of its own apps specifically designed for the home environment.

Sony refreshes Vaio with new power plant and some goodings

Sony has prepared to refresh their Vaio laptops with some seasonal upgrades seeing as winter is coming soon. First and foremost, the 16.4-inch VAIO F is getting a kick in the graphical department – just as expected, you can grab a GeForce GT 425M 1GB for a nominal $50 fee — and there’s a pair of standard-issue USB 3.0 ports to power some potent peripherals. The Vaio L touchscreen all-in-one, meanwhile, is getting a Blu-ray burner at the $2,199 level, and both the VAIO EA and VAIO EB will have a power plant of 2.53GHz Core i5-460M and 2.66GHz Core i5-580M processors for $130 and $230 premiums, respectively, as well as ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics for a mere $100. Last but not least, the EB and EC can trade in their weak 1366 x 768 displays for 1920 x 1080 full HD glory, and until October 9th that particular $50 upgrade costs you the very reasonable price of free, or so they say.

Mac OS X Leopard installed on HTC Shift, but no Wi-Fi

Sometimes we have to respect hackers. They gave us the jailbreaked iPhone, and many else. They’re the kind of guy who spends countless hours for their self-funded projects, just to prove a point to the world.

Thanks to dedicated code junkies over at XDA developers, HTC’s ill-fated Shift is getting a new lease on life by showing its ability to run OS X 10.5.6. Sadly, it looks as if an upgrade to Snow Leopard is out of the question due to some file changes between 10.5 and 10.6, but the biggest killer is the current build’s inability to provide Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support. The guidelines to follow suit are right there in the source link, but good luck making good use of this without cordless access to the World Wide Web.

These days concept art furniture not only make your living room look like and feel like from the Tron, but also smells like.
