ARM to implement multi-threading in next generation microarchitecture.

Cortex A15, or Eagle, is the name of ARM’s next generation microarchitecture. After Cortex A9, Eagle will raise the bar further with up to four physical cores and clock frequencies up to 2.5 GHz. ARM confirms that it is working on a multi-threading technology to follow Cortex A15. This multi-threading technology will be interesting, as we will see far more advance apps entering smartphone market.

Going for multi-threading in a microarchitecture that already holds four physical cores sends out a clear signal to partners as to where ARM aims to take the architecture. We have already seen how servers have started to gain interest in the energy efficient ARM circuits and with better multi-threading performance it can gain whole new ground there.
