Red Bull X1 prototype revealed before Gran Turismo 5 debut

Here’s a prototype by Red Bull Racing. It’s called the X1 Prototype, and looking at the numbers on paper, it should pawn both the Aero Ultimate SS and the Veyron Supersports. But only in Gran Turismo 5.

This is a collaboration between the talented perfectionists from Polyphony and Red Bull Racing for the Gran Turismo 5 racing simulator. Obviously, this would be the fastest moving thing in Gran Turismo 5, as Red Bull Racing is a huge sponsor for this game.

The Red Bull X1 is the brainchild of the team’s star designer Adrian Newey, the aerodynamicist who’s probably responsible for more checkered flags than any other engineer on the real F1 grid today, with input from the team’s talented superstar driver Sebastian Vettel. The car looks like an offspring between F1 car and an LMP1 racer, but the specs would surely overpower both. Though, the car looks madly similar to a Caparo T1.

Instead of a typical internal-combustion engine, the X1 packs a gas turbine driving 1,483 horsepower and 527 lb-ft of torque through a CVT to the rear wheels (in the game at least). Simulated performance stats give it a top speed of 249 miles per hour, while lapping Suzuka in 1:11.540 by Sebastian Vettel (presumably in a setup running the Gran Turismo 5 game). For comparison’s sake, Vettel’s fastest time behind the 2009 F1 car was 1:30.833. The car’s been fully detailed in the latest issue of Car magazine, which has naturally leaked its way onto the net.

Now, somebody should seriously consider building this thing to have a healthy race with the Ariel Atom!
