Microsoft CEO says next Windows release is ‘riskiest product bet!’

I guess the ‘tick tock’ culture exist in software companies too. Remember Vista? It’s revolutionary (almost), but much hyped out and performs terribly, and Windows 7 is what it’s supposed to be at launch. Well, Windows 7 has only been around for a year, and the Redmond’s big boss Steve Ballmer has already started talking about the next big thing.
When being asked about the riskiest product the company is undertaking now, Steve Ballmer take no hesitation in answering “the next release of Windows.” Well, we can see that. The next Windows (8?)should be a float like Vista, and getting delayed for years, and after that Microsoft would release a ‘stable version’ called Windows 9. That’s if the company keeps up the current trend that they’ve applied.
Well, the idea of a risky product usually ties down to a new product that sees major leap in design, and we can’t really blame Mr Ballmer here for saying that. But I can see how risky it is, if the next Windows is based on full screen tiles and have integrated Windows Live app stores, with heavy emphasis on touchscreen experience and 7-inch slates, besides integrated syncing apps to cloud based services and your other Microsoft devices (Windows Phone 7 and Xbox Live).
