Cab drivers look to be out of job soon

Germany’s Freie University pimps up a new Volkswagen Passat, but not with bodykits and NOS. this time, its laser, radar, and sensor stuff. The project is called “Made in Germany”, and has a companion iPad padd from Appirion to do all the messy details. You just start the program, punch in coordinates and wait for the car to extract itself from a nearby parking lot and pick you up from school.

ADATA's S007 military spec USB flash drive is designed to be tough

ADATA's S007 military spec USB flash drive is designed to be tough

Funny thing, I never knew soldiers or commanders carry handy drives. ADATA has announced a new S007 handy drive with full compliant to US MIL-SPEC standard. This new USB key is available in capacities up to 32GB and should provide careless handlers with “unrivaled digital data protection from both impacts and electric shocks.” Both of ‘em (it’s available in green and red) are wrapped in a rubber coating, and transfer at USB 2.0 speeds (upwards of 30MB/sec on the read side and 8MB/sec on the write side), but sadly, there’s no USB 3.0, so your ‘saving the world’ progress might get slowed down if it includes transferring 40GB of HD video of the enemy’s scandalicious video. Is James Bond going to endorse this? Or are they letting the A-Team doing the promoting stuff, since ADATA and ATEAM go quite well together.

Computer wins at Japanese Chess against human for the first time

Computer wins at Japanese Chess against human for the first time

Yes, we all know that computers can be more efficient and smarter than human, but only to the extent of the developers’ coding. It really depends on how you develop your AI. We’ve seen people playing with computers on chess, be it Chinese chess or English chess or Pizza chess, but now it’s the Japanese’s turn.

The Mainichi Daily News is reporting that for the first time ever, a computer has beaten a human Shogi champion, Ichiyo Shimizu, in Tokyo. The game lasted six hours, and the computer reportedly pursued Shimizu “aggressively” from the start. Must be much stressed to play like that for six hours. The governing association of pro Shogi players will now review the game to determine whether it will allow the computer to move onto challenge another player.

What? Winning is winning, be it a robot or a human. Let the robot show ‘em how it’s done.

Jailbreaking your PS3? HAHA!

October 14th, 2010

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit

Sony has just found a method to play with you poor gamers that can’t afford original games. This is not new thought, as we’ve seen a few developers doing similar practice. As MCV reports, anyone buying Electronic Arts’ new “Medal of Honor” game will first have to update their PS3 to the latest 3.50 firmware (conveniently provided on the disc) before playing — that firmware also, of course, has the convenient side effect of blocking the ability to jailbreak the console. No word on any other games that will follow suit, but we have sneaking suspicion that this is something PS3 users will have to get used to. It’s either you buy original, or you wait for jailbreak of 3.50 firmware, and feel slowpoke to play Medal of Honor a year later.

Zune software headed to Mac, the better to sync your Windows Phone

Zune software headed to Mac, the better to sync your Windows Phone

Now this is funny and cute news. Like iPhone needing iTunes, the Windows Phone 7 will need Zune to get things started. Microsoft’s Oded Ran recently tweeted that Zune will let Mac users sync WP7 phones, presumably using an OS X compatible version of the desktop software package. Of course, since the tweet was deleted shortly after it was written, it’s possible this was some sort of mistake, but if buyers find the twain incompatible come launch day, you’d best believe there’s going to be some consumer outrage. Here’s hoping that if the software does exist, it’ll sync good ol’ Zune media players as well. Will Apple keep quiet for this? Well since iTunes is available in Windows version, why not Zune in Mac?

Cup-holder Revolution Design makes life much simpler

I’ve had a few experience of Frappocino downpour in my car seat, because the designer of my car is so retard to even leave out a cup holder. I asked politely at Starbuck for a holder, but they gave me a paper bag that I can’t hook onto the hinge of any part of my car.

This, this is genuine genius creation! It’s great designs like these that make my life so much easier.

Ghost Lamps look cute

This lamp is supposed to strike the fear of darkness away from you late at night, but I’m not sure whether they can really strike fear away from you at night. You might even have a heart attack by just looking at these lamps. Those four ghosts chased away the ravenous yellow devil from their precious power pellets using only the illumination from their bodies as a deterrent. Well, at least these pac-man like ghost lamps look cute.

BlackBerry Style still alive, coming soon.

BlackBerry Style still alive, coming soon.

Do you remember the BlackBerry Style? The clamshell like phone with QWERTY keyboard once you flip it open? They got lost somehow in the mist of all great things announced after it, but now they seemed to be back. Some literature leaked this week by way of BGR  suggests that it’ll be called “Oxford” at retail, and that a grey version will be launching at the tail end of this month — October 31, to be exact — for $99.99 on contract after rebates and discounts, while a purple version will follow on soon thereafter. The naming might still be Style, but it’ll not be a surprise if both are used in different continent. Well, at least clamshell lovers still have hope.

Demolish to rebuild, at a crowded city

October 13th, 2010

This is how you demolish a building at a packed and crowded city area, to make way for a new building. Reverse engineering? Not even needed. This is awesome.
