iPhone 4 glass easily shattered by… case?

Here’s dangerous news flocking around, and I guess Steve Jobs should be having a meeting with his iPhone team already. It’s called “Glassgate”, or “Backgate”, or “Shattergate”. Anything that you like. Engadget called them “Glass-That-Shatters-If-Scratched-By-A-Casegate.” Slightly too long actually. A dude by the name of Ryan Block has posted a story on gdgt citing sources “inside and outside Apple” claiming that Apple has discovered a different flaw in its iPhone 4 designs. The basic problem seems to be with non-bumper cases, specifically ones that slide on to the phone, and the danger of trapped particles scratching the back of the phone while taking the case on and off. Case-caused scratches are nothing new, but the big problem seems to be that these scratches can lead to cracking and even full-on shattering of the back panel. Apparently this lead to Apple severely limiting its reselling efforts of third party cases for a time, if you had noticed. Yes, Apple might have some third party cases online and in its stores, however none of the hard cases are of the slide-on variety. Apple also purportedly has a new test program set up to understand this specific issue.

Bazooka saves lives, wins awards, and does zero kills.

Bazooka saves lives, wins awards, and does zero kills.

That’s not a toy for your 5 year old. It’s a real working bazooka. The ‘bullet’ even explodes. But it doesn’t kill! Wasted. It saves lives. Pretty odd right? The oddest part is that it won the award for this year’s James Dyson Award, blasting away 14 other finalists along the way.

It’s called the Longreach, and it’s made from hydrophobic foam which expands in the water. The Longreach is capable of blasting a missile to a distance of 150m, and it somehow saves lives when it blast. Read more…

Who’s suing who, mum edition.

There are a lot, lot, lot of lawsuits shooting around the mobile industry these days, and you can see them all at a glance in this tidy infographic by George Kokkinidis. Nokia seemed to be a very busy company. Another busy company would be Apple. Kodak seemed to be very unfriendly thought.

Concept Phone Made From Copper Charges in Pockets Using a Thermogenerator

Concept Phone Made From Copper Charges in Pockets Using a Thermogenerator

Concept phones aren’t the same with concept cars. Usually, when manufacturers show off their concept cars, the design is super futuristic with sleek lines and cues. Then they’ll boast of how many horses the ride has, besides some really futuristic interior which looks like a jetfighter and a dashboard with meters that look like Japanese anime. Concept phones, no they don’t have horses. They’re boring, because they’re something a university student draws up during his free time, and dream about owning one. Like this concept for example. Nintendo Wii turns red with glee for Super Mario's 25th birthday

Nintendo’s celebrating their Mario’s 25th birthday, and they’re selfish. That’s because they’re releasing this repainted devilish red Wii machine and a bloody hell sweet bundle to go with the package, and they’re a Japan-only affair. Damn.

The package includes the new Wii Remote Plus controller, which has MotionPlus tracking, and also a preinstalled copy of Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary Edition. That’s the game that we all know and loved, but it now comes with bricks embellished with the number 25 on the front. It’s going for sale on November 11 for ¥20,000 ($241), which means you’ll have roughly a month’s time to think about how you’re going to get this thing out of Japan.

8.9-inch Asus Eee Pad tablet leaks

8.9-inch Asus Eee Pad tablet leaks

Asus seemed to be rather greedy, as they plan to conquer the slate market in each and every corner. Here’s another slate from Asus, leaked from somewhere. It’s an 8.9-inch tablet with a 1024 x 600 display, and it’s supposed to be called the EP90. There’s 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor with Tegra graphics. It’s running on Microsoft Windows, which we assume to be a customized Windows 7 by Asus for all their slate products.

Beyond that, Ynet is also saying there’s a 12-inch tablet model on the way, which either proves the company’s disinformation plot or confirms that the Eee Pad lineup is about to get as confusing as the Eee PC series is today. That’s a lot of Eee Pad there Asus.

World’s smallest Gyroscope is Ion cannon’s tracker

Our world’s getting more high-tech. Yes, that’s great news, but as you don’t realize, our world’s getting more and more dangerous too. Here’s the world’s smallest gyroscope, powred by lasers and as small as a single grain of sand. It’ll sound very safe and going the road of commercial if it’s announced by Steve Jobs for the next iPhone 5, but it’s not. It’s invented by the Israeli Department of Defence, thus making it sound so dangerous. From what they say, the new gyros are sensitive enough to track your position and movements anywhere—no GPS required. Convincing enough? Read more…
