Chris Allen, a professional yo-yoist, made an enormous yo-yo. It is 35 inches across, 18 inches wide, and weighs 5.4 pounds. Allen tested it while standing on the roof of parking garage of the National Yo-Yo Museum in Chico, California. Watch the video of it in action after more. Epic fail? You decide. Thought I must say, nice try there mate.
World’s first. We’ve heard that word fairly often. Here comes another. Sony just announced the world’s first 16.41-Megapixel CMS sensor for mobile phones. The 1/2.8-inch back-illuminated Exmor R model IMX081PQ sensor packs an industry smallest 1.12μm unit cell size and is capable of shooting 1080p at 30fps or 720p at 60fps. Read more…
ASRock might not be a name that you’ll even have a look at when you’re shopping for some HTPC. These days’ people are either getting the Apple TV, Mac Mini, Shuffles, Zotac, Asus, or even the Western Digital media player. But you’d be wrong for skipping the ASRock’s latest offering, called the 3D Vision HTPC. It scored a 100-percent mark on Anandtech’s Media Streamer Test Suite. Read more…
From the folks that turned your iPod nano 5G into an underwater camera. Now there’s a new armband for your diving activity, and it’ll go well with your Apple toy. H2O Audio’s Amphibx Grip is specifically designed to keep your new iPod nano and iPod shuffle shielded from the harmful, oftentimes fatal effects of liquid, promising a “100 percent watertight and secure seal that provides waterproofing up to 12 feet,” and that includes full touchscreen and button operation. $60 and they’re yours. And well, the odd thing about this is that the waterproof earbuds does not come with the package. But the company will be more than happy to sell them to you for a price. Funny, right?
For those traveling in and around Asia on Singapore Airlines, it sounds as if your flights are about to get a bit more connected, and potentially more talkative. A new in-flight connectivity system based on Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband (collaboration with OnAir) is expected to provide passengers on medium- and long-haul flights with “access to Wi-Fi internet and mobile telephony services.” This should, in theory, enable patrons to send and receive SMS text messages with their GSM-compatible handsets, send and receive emails on their laptops and smartphones and potentially make and receive voice calls. SIA expects to have the first of its fleet equipped in the first half of 2011, with introductions to happen in progressive fashion on its Airbus A380, Airbus A340-500 and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Hopefully there’s no annoying aunty in the next flight of mine when I board Singapore Airlines, or I’m going to throw my old laptop to her face. That’ll give me a new excuse to buy a new laptop.
A cellphone modder known as hyperX has developed some custom tweaks to improve the quality of the stills and videos of Nokia’s latest touchscreen baby, the N8. First is a hack to enable 720p30 video, a slight improvement over the 720p25 default. That’s demonstrated after the break, along with a continuous autofocus mod. More notable, however, is a tweak to enable nearly uncompressed images. Stock JPEGs coming from the camera clock in around 2MB, but the example image he’s provided (on the other end of that source link) is a rather heftier 11MB — truly a hack that will put your memory card on agony, but it’ll sure make those pixels shine. However, there’s no fair comparison ‘before and after’ of the hack, so we’re not sure how this has improved in our naked eye.
I’ve never like the Razer Naga that somehow ‘caused every MMO addict in existence to salivate uncontrollably’. I’ve held it, and used it few times, and I’ve never find the perfect way to hold it without having cramp on my hand. Now, Razer has gone and creates special editions of this button-fest mouse, a new duo of special ‘Naga’. Read more…
Everyone seemed to be craze about the Windows Phone 7’s arrival. LG might have released a few pictures of their Optimus 7, so Samsung can’t lose out. How to out win? By releasing this 13-minute video of their i8700 Windows Phone 7 handset of kush. The i8700 has also been referred to as the Omnnia 7, which perhaps will be called just that on some part of the world.
We’ve known that magnetic stuff will ‘kill’ your electronic devices when they come too close to court your toys. So here comes Verbatim, as they say that their latest USB 3.0 external storage is magnetic proof. It’ll be available in your choice of three sizes, with 500 and 750GB models shipping later this month and a 1TB monster coming in November. Naturally they’re also backwards compatible with last-gen USB. Living around very ‘magnetic’ places? Or you are very exposed to magnetic weapons like a magnetic paperclip dispenser? Then you should be getting this to avoid those killers from toppling over and wiping the bits right off your drives which store all your precious porn collections.
