A support thread on a corporate WiFi login issues leading to a somewhat bombastic news for the Android community, all thanks to the answer of an anonymous Google engineer. That’s how simple this news leaked. When the engineer meant that that particular issue will be patched in the “next major release” of Android, he actually meant the next specific version 2.3 of Android.
There’s no name for it though, but since frozen yogurt is used, maybe Google will name it “ice kacang”? Probably not, as Éclair was the name for both 2.0 and 2.1, so we should be seeing a repeat in this practise of ‘a name for two minor versions’. Android 2.3 will still be a major release emphasized on smartphones with lots of new features and lots of patches, while Gingerbread (3.0) will be the new Android with major facelift and more attentions to slate products.

If you like Apple’s Magic Mouse for its fun gesture experience, and yet don’t want to buy a Mac cause you’ve been using a windows ever since you’re born, you’d kill Steve Jobs because he didn’t gave the Magic Mouse a driver for Windows system. But now, you can look elsewhere. Read more…

And you wonder who the hell Ortustech is. Some ostrich company from China making imitation screens? Not quite near there. Ortustech is a joint venture between Casio Computer and Toppan Printing to develop small and medium sized displays. They’re not quite in the league of Samsung and LG, yet. But they sure weren’t some small fries either, as they just put your sparkling new Retina display to shame. Read more…

Somehow I got the feeling that this shouldn’t be your typical desktop monitor. Viewsonic has just announced the VX2258wm, a 22-inch monitor that uses Infrared Optical Imaging to bring Windows-certified multitouch to your desktop. Let’s see, 1080p HD resolution, ClearMotiv II Technology, a 5ms response time, a dynamic contrast ratio of 100,000:1, and support for HBDP (High Bandwidth Digital Protection) Blu-ray devices. Sounds pretty standard for a desktop monitor, but would you hold your hand up high at your eye level to play multi-touch for hours? If you don’t mind then feel free to get it for fun, as its available now in Europe for £189 (roughly $300).

Well, this is according to Microsoft Netherlands, and also an allegedly leaked product roadmap. Buried at the bottom of a press release celebrating the first birthday of Windows 7, you’ll find the above Dutch phrase, which Google Translate miserably translated (with lots of grammar error it seemed) as “Furthermore, Microsoft is of course the next version of Windows. But it will take about two years before “Windows 8″ on the market.” But looking at Microsoft who likes to delay their products (oh hi Vista), I’ll take this with a pint of salt.

Gran Turismo 5 continues to tease while enraging all gamers worldwide, for that one day when we can drive the Red Bull X1 Prototype around with our controller. The game was supposed to be released on November 2nd, but an announcement on the US Playstation blog said it was pushed back… again. The only clue to the new release date was that it would be available this holiday season. What does that mean exactly? Cancel your New Year party and camp outside the game shop for the game during New Year Eve, or after, or before. We weren’t sure. Even some of the e-tailers weren’t sure too! Read more…

Yes, finally we’re seeing some results from Steve Ballmer’s massive USD500 million marketing campaign. While there’s not much mention of the Kinect in the ads, it shows clearly that the kids are having hell lots of fun time with these things. Mugging and jumping around. Hopefully when you really buy a Kinect, your neighbour living downstairs won’t complain of you stomping late at night (assuming you’re living in an apartment or a condo). Read more…
