A challenger has arrived! Nvidia GeForce GTX 595, a worthy challenger for the HD5970.

Nvidia gave AMD an open hand slap in the face when they launched their GeForce GTX580. The card literally receives critical acclaim and good reviews, as outperforming its older sibling the GTX480, yet being quieter and cooler, and also iron-out some serious issues with the power-draw and thermal characteristics of previous generation GeForce. It comes second to none in the DirectX 11 Kings of King, and the only challenger comes in the form of AMD’s Radeon 5970, which is essentially a dual GPU card. The GTX 580 only loses out by a slight bit! Now, Nvidia is giving AMD a back hand slap.
Yes, we all know that the slower GT500 series cards will be lining up in stores very soon, but nobody actually anticipated Nvidia to have the dual GPU card running on these GF-110 chips ready so soon. NVIDIA seems to be ready with a prototype of such a dual-GPU accelerator, which the Chinese media is referring to as the “GTX 595″.
The reference design PCB of the dual-GF110 accelerator (which still needs some components fitted) reveals quite a lot about the card taking shape. First, it’s a single PCB card; both the GPU systems are located on the same PCB. No more 9800GX2 monsters. Second, there are slots for three DVI output connectors present, indicating that the card with be 3D Vision Surround ready in a single card. You just have to get one of these, plug in three displays over standard DVI, and you’re ready with a large display head spanning three physical displays. Well, this “GTX 595” is GTX 580 SLI in a single PCB after all.
What’s more cool here is that the card could possibly feature a total of 3 GB of video memory (or 1.5 GB per GPU system). Each GPU system has six memory chips on the obverse side of the PCB. The core configurations of the GPUs are unknown at this point. But the most interesting part here is that the card’s power is drawn in from two 8-pin PCI-E power connectors. The card is 2-way SLI capable with another of its kind. Yes, throw in two of these “GTX 595”, and you could possibly see a Qual-SLI GTX 580 with lower power consumption and heat too! What a beast! Imagine the possibility of this beast with distributed computing. Folding, anyone? Yes, let’s see how AMD will retaliate!
