Kinect does wonder

Many developers have shown what the Xbox 360 Kinect can really do, all thanks to the open source driver. It’s all about your creativity, though all you can actually do is wave around with your hands, and maybe your body too. Some dudes at the MIT Media Lab Fluid Interfaces Group did what many did, attempting to redefine the human-machine interactive experience. But what they achieved is something you only see in movies, with many sci-fi effects. But it’s done in real life.

The DepthJS is a system that makes Javascript ‘communicate’ with Microsoft’s Kinect in order to navigate web pages, among other cool stuff that you usual do with your mouse only. Yes, making wild, arm-waving gestures is not the best way to navigate a computer around, but it is cool. Just shows that you can. Multitouch in the air, anyone?

There’s actually another gesture solution called the Evoluce, from the company’s Multitouch Input Management (MIM) driver for Kinect. It supports simultaneous multitouch with multiuser control over apps running on a Windows 7 PC. Check out the video below.

I love the Kinect, and not because of its intended uses as you’ve pointed out in this thread. The hacking capability is really astonishing and is what sets this product apart from the rest that Microsoft completes.

Being able to pick up 3D images for depth really allows the product to do amazing things as scene here.

Or what about the fact that its only been out for a few months and these are the results we are already seeing.

I can’t way to see what Open Kinect does and other Open NI platforms as well.
