Vizio XVT Series Goes 3D

Vizio XVT Series Goes 3D

This comes as a surprise, probably. Vizio has injected Three-Dee into their XVT-series televisions, by introducing a trio of new 3DTVs. The largest in the trio would be this 55-inch XVT553SV, where it will be accompanied by the 47-inch XVT473SV and the 42-inch XVT3D424SV.

There are some serious features to punch other competitors in these new 3DTVs, which should help boost fame for Vizio’s ‘Six Time Award Winning’ television series. These new 3DTVs feature an integrated dual-band Wi-Fi, a Bluetooth remote control with a hardware QWERTY keyboard and access to Vizio Internet Apps. Too bad, you will need to purchase your own pairs of 3D active shutter glasses because those don’t come bundled. No love there from Vizio. But well you can still scout for some fashionable 3D glasses. The Vizio XVT3D554SV, XVT3D474SV and XVT3D424SV are priced at $2,400, $1,800 and $1,400, respectively.

Turns your notebook into a high-tech GPS navigator with this USB GPS receiver

Think your phone is the only one with GPS feature? Now even your notebook can be a gigantic GPS Navigator (unless someone projects it to some hundred-inch display). The USB GPS Receiver from Chinavasion will convert your laptop into a huge satellite navigation device, thanks to the SiRF Star III chipset technology. The USB GPS Receiver provides accurate GPS positioning within 1 to 5 meters, and to ensure up-to-the-second accuracy, the receiver tracks up to 20 satellites at a time, re-acquires satellite signals in about 100 milliseconds and updates position data every second. $23.46 is all you need to bring home the Chinavasion USB GPS Receiver. No smartphone? No problem! Just be careful, the FBI will be able to track you with this.

Touchscreen on Ice Ice baby!

Touchscreen on Ice Ice baby!

The pals over at Nokia’s research lab in Tampere, Finland probably have some extra time to have fun in some really cool way. They’ve come up with a rather unique new type of touchscreen display: one made of ice. Well, the ice probably just a surface, as there a projector and an array of near-infrared cameras that are connected to a PC involved, which detects finger gestures like how those motion-sensing gaming consoles work. For Nokia’s part, it says that while the project is a “playful experiment,” it does show that “interactive computing interfaces can now be built anywhere.” Read more…

Super Talent announce new 480GB UltraDrive MX SSD

Super Talent announce new 480GB UltraDrive MX SSD

More and more SSD are appearing in the market, and here comes another SSD from Super Talent, the company that brought us many nano-size handy drives. Super Talent has added a new storage capacity to its UltraDrive MX SSD line-up by bringing you the 480GB model. Just like its predecessors, this 2.5-inch SSD also comes with MLC NAND Flash memory chips, a JMicron 616 controller, a 64MB of cache memory and has a dual interface for both SATA II and mini-USB connections. In terms of performance, it’s not as fast as SandForce powered SSD, but it provides decent read and write speeds of up to 250MB/s and 180MB/s, respectively. The 480GB UltraDrive MX SSD will set you back $1,200. Not particularly cheap, but decently priced as its 480GB, not your common suspects of 64GB. The great thing here is the dual interface, which means you can use this internally, or as an external storage, with a case of course.

MSI Introduces a New All-In-One Desktop PC for your office

Manufacturers are trying hard to push all-in-one desktop PC, though we still don’t see a high adoption rate. MSI MSI today introduced a new all-in-one desktop PC namely the Wind Top AP2000. Designed specifically for business users and office environments, this space-saving machine boasts a 20-inch 1600 x 900 widescreen display with optional single-touch.

Lying in the heart of this machine is a 2.0GHz Intel Pentium P6100 dual-core processor, an integrated Intel GMA HD graphics, a 2GB DDR3 RAM, a 320GB hard drive, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, a DVD burner, a 6-in-1 card reader, WiFi, 2x 3W speakers and is pre-loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS. Unfortunately, there’s no info on pricing yet. Not your decent office workhorse, but it’ll be sufficient for some light office work and some simple apps that would do well with some touchscreen systems. Too bad there’s no support for multitouch.

Living in a house, the size of a car park?

Living in a house, the size of a car park?

In this world where the economy isn’t going very strong even as recession is quite over, prices of lands and houses are rising like tingling rockets under the pants. Some people might not stand living in a house the size of a car park, but others have made compromise in order to cope with the high living standards. Just look at what ingenious architects in Japan are up to. With both space and funds at a minimum, builders and property owners alike are looking to get the most out of every square foot, even going so far as to build a two-person home on the same footprint as an average-sized parking space. iPhone integrated SIM story makes operators rage

The iPhone 4 uses a micro SIM, and Apple has always wanted to create an integrated SIM card so that consumers can buy the popular phone without having to sign up to operators’ long-term contracts. But now, the big plan to bypass operators have been scraped and Apple is forced to go back to drawing boards after operators warned that they would boycott subsidizing the cost of the ‘overpriced’ phone. The story here is that operators worldwide are obligated to pay Apple the full £375 (USD 600) cost of the phone, which are somehow ‘transferred’ to consumers for ‘free’ under conditions of signing up for a 24-month marriage contracts.
