Exhausts are hot, and that means heat is there. What can you do with heat? It’s a form of energy, and that means energy can be stored by means of conversion, and be used as an alternate energy source for the car. This is not a new thing actually, as BMW has been researching recycled energy sourced from car’s hot exhaust as early as 2005. Then again, there’s no result until, despite BMW indicating that a workable system will be employed on commercial vehicles as early as 2014. Read more…
Yesterday Nissan’s electric car the Leaf managed a 99 miles per gallon (equivalent) EPA rating from the government of US, and today it’s the Chevrolet Volt’s turn. General Motors must be rather happy with the results, because these efficiency stickers are the last thing holding up deliveries of the first production vehicles. Read more…
Here’s a satellite photo of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. A needle made of glass, surrounded by some pond for kids to play with during the hot weather. That’s taken with GeoEye 1, the highest resolution imaging commercial satellite. GeoEye 1 is at an altitude of 684 kilometers over the surface of the Earth, and it’s capable of capturing details of just 16 inches long in black and white, and 64 inches in color. The tall building sure looks like a clock when up high.
After 2 years of wait, no harm to watch another epic opening before you put on your helmet. Here’s the cinematic opening of Gran Turismo 5. Enjoice guys.
Thermalright has launched a new VGA cooler called the Shaman, after being missing in the VGA Cooler sector for some time. They’ve been active in the CPU Cooler sector however. The Shaman still sees Thermalright’s typical design cues for heatsinks. Lots of aluminum fins, and that’s it. This Shaman does not use the now-popular HDT technique (Heatpipe Direct Touch) which were made famous by Xigmatek. Read more…
Aside from an Android phone and two Android tablets, Acer seemed to be busily playing with a Windows 7 tablet in their lab too. This will be tagging along when the Android devices launch. They’re quite similar to the Android tablet, with 15mm thickness, and weighing less than 2.2 pounds. There’s not much mention of the specs of this 10.1-inch tablet, aside from being powered by an AMD, which is a rather surprise. Bobcat? Well, whatever it is, having Acer bringing tablets to their lineup of products will boost sales of tablets greatly, as Acer is one leading computer system selling outside of US.
Here’s a shoe that you’ll probably want and won’t be able to get it. Not for your average treadmill running or some climb up Mt Everest. More like jumping around in your living room. Sony PlayStation and Nike have teamed up to create this PlayStation Move inspired Zoom Huarache Trainer and the Killzone themed Special Forces Boot, for a limited run collaboration timed with the PlayStation’s 15tih anniversary. Like the PlayStation Air Force Ones and last year’s PlayStation Air Trainer 1, you can expect to see this sparkling new in auction houses, fetching some high prices.
And how are you going to get them? They’ll not end up in stores of Sony or Nike, as these new ultra-limited edition kickers will only be available “for friends and family”. Good luck getting them.
When someone announces an “iPhone killer”, that phone has got to be something kickass. But this also shows that Apple’s iPhone is such a success. Motorola is playing around with not one, but two “iPhone killer” Olympus Tegra 2 smartphones. There seem to be front-facing camera, and rumoured to have Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, and dual-band 802.11n WiFi. But that’s all there is. You should probably wait for Samsung Nexus S if you are seeking an iPhone killer.
