The Nexus S got dissected

As with all the tradition of iFixit, the latest gadgets in town must be dissected for humanity. The latest phone that got the buzz would be Nexus S, and they sure did get hold of one unit. Can’t really escape the paws of the boys over there, can you? Let’s check it out!

The article is a very interesting one, really. The crew at iFixit called the phone much hyped gimmick, and there’s a reason for that. Google apparently called the Nexus S having a contour display, but after taking everything apart, the iFixit crew saw that the only part that’s ‘contour’ is the display screen. Not the multitouch controller and definitely not the Super AMOLED screen. The NFC antenna was also called something ‘coming out of Tron’s movie’. I guess they’ve just watched the movie.

They’ve also made a few points on the ‘gimmick’ phone. Well, for start the battery is easily replaceable. The phone is also fairly easy to repair as the motherboard is held in place by regular screws and connectors. Most of the components are also modular, making it even easier to place. But what’s bad is the front panel which is attached with adhesive instead of screws, so it’s harder to take off than on the iPhone. If you shatter the front panel glass, the SAMOLED has to be replaced as well — they’re fused together.
