Kaleidescape launches 100-disc Blu-ray movie server
December 16th, 2010
Kaleidescape has launched the industry’s first Blu-ray server, which is a new 100-disc Blu-ray disc vault the company demoed at CEDIA that, when paired with its M300 or M500 players, can rip, store, and stream copies of Blu-ray movies throughout the home. Probably your best option if you love to collect Blu-ray movies, and don’t like their box. Despite the hefty price tag, there are still some odd requirements. Each disc vault has to be connected to an individual player, and the discs have to remain in the vault for the player to stream their ripped copies over the network. I can imagine how annoying that can be at times when your buddy took that new Blu-ray movie of yours, and your wife wants to show off that movie to her BFFs. December 16th, 2010
We’ve seen quite a number of ‘first’ in the hard disk sector for this year, but Seagate’s still not giving up quite yet. They’re here yet again to claim the “first 1TB 2.5-inch enterprise HDD” with their latest new-fangled Constellation.2. That’s because Seagate says its “ready for the insane demands generally found in DAS, NAS, SAN and other nonstop business environments.” You’ll get 6Gb/s performance, T10 Protection Information and 1.4 million hours MTBF. There’s a self-encrypting drive option for those who just can’t be too careful, and it’ll be out and about later this month in capacity choices of 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB. Thus far only Dell is the one that stated to have this hardworking peasant across its enterprise products before the dawn of 2011. December 16th, 2010
Yes, after weeks of delay to ‘probably’ readjust the pricing, AMD has finally launched the replacement for the HD 5800 series. The new HD 6900 series offers improved power management and tessellation performance at a lower $369 price point, but also bitter because in terms of sheer firepower, the Radeon series doesn’t seem to have made quite the leap many of us had hoped for, which is to defeat the green camp’s monster that’s also overpriced. December 16th, 2010
BioWare and Spike just unveiled the first full look at Mass Effect 3 and holy hell does it look amazing. This time however, Earth is burning and terrifying machines are destroying the human race, probably one lone soldier, wounded and with limited bullets, will save Earth (no I’m just joking). It seemed that next year’s game will be very graphically challenging, if Mass Effect 3 is that awesome in-game, like this animated trailer. We’ll be seeing The Elder Scroll: Oblivion Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, and hopefully Crysis 2. A very exciting gaming year ahead of us, but you might want to wait until Nvidia released GTX 680 next year and Tri-SLI it if you want to play them with uber graphics smoothly. December 16th, 2010
Cataclysm just crushed all previous World of Warcraft 24-hour sales record, as the latest expansion to the highly popular massively online game set sail to a 3.3 million copies in its first day after a long teasing year. “We had to bring Azeroth to the brink of destruction in Cataclysm, but the result was our best expansion yet,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We want to thank all of our new, existing, and returning players throughout the world for their incredible enthusiasm and support, and we look forward to hearing what they think about all the new content.” Despite those impressive numbers, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm still didn’t manage to topple Call of Duty: Black Ops’ record of 5.5 million copies sold in 24 hours when that game hit stores last month, which ironically is also under the same Activision Blizzard umbrella. Then again, you don’t have to pay a monthly fee to play Black Ops. Fast and Furious Five trailer out!
December 16th, 2010
It seemed that the next summer will be literally “freaking insanity”. We’ve got the robot wars at the moon “Transformer 3: Dark of the Moon”. Now car freaks and action movie lovers will get to watch the much awaited Fast and Furious Five. The first instalment of the series started out quiet but slowly become a hit, and the series turned into somewhat action packed, from riced cars and imports, to busting the bad guys modern Robin Hood style.
