Google's Honeycomb Android tablet release slated for March?

Thus far the only official timeframe we have from Google for an Android 3.0 Honeycomb release is sometime “next year.” That’s a little too elusive for our liking and for a seemingly infinite list of manufacturers chomping at the bit to release their fully sanctioned Android tablets onto the world. However, now DigiTimes narrows things down a bit with an off-the-cuff comment about MSI preparing to sell its Tegra 2-based tablets in April or May “after Google releases Android 3.0 in March.” That’s probably the most narrowed down pinpoint of Google’s Honeycomb release date, which seemed logical enough, as Acer is hoping to ship its tablets with Honeycomb in April as well. Let’s see if Google is able to give a confirmation during CES 2011, since Motorola will be showing its ‘XOOM’ tablet in CES next month.

Avatar is the favourite movie of the Jack Sparrow(s)

Avatar is the favourite movie of the Jack Sparrow(s)

When Avatar (www.avatarmovie.com by James Cameron, not the cartoon) was released last year, it went on to set tons of records including as the most successful film in history with gross revenue of more than USD 2 billion, besides the extremely hyped up 3D. But despite that, there’s also another record set by the film that did not reach the mainstream media widely, as it’s those kind of award that you won’t like if you’re a producer or director. The Avatar movie (2009) is the fastest movie to be pirated with more than 200,000 download in just four days after it was premiered.

That’s only the first four days when it was screened, but now that it’s been over a year, the record has been rather massive. Avatar is still quite popular among the cult of Jack Sparrow. The film now holds the record as the most pirated movie of 2010 with 16,580,000 downloads on BitTorrent. Following behind, but not even close, is Kick-Ass, Inception, Shutter Island and Iron Man 2. If you try to convert all those downloads to real Blu-ray packages sold in retail, imagine the amount of moolah James Cameron will get!

AMD Radeon HD 6950 unlocked to HD 6970?

This is probably a bad news if you’ve already bought a Radeon HD 6970, but if you haven’t, then you can probably consider this a great upgrade if you’re shopping for one. AMD’s better deal just got better, as thanks to a less secure locking method AMD’s new Radeon HD 6950 can now be unlocked to a full blown HD 6970 with just a few mouse clicks. No bios flashing, just simple click and click. Read more…

Sandy Bridge showing early signs of superb overclockability

It’s winter, so the room temperature is probably 11c or so, but still that score is extremely impressive. What you’re seeing here is air cooling at 4.8GHz with only 1.080v vcore! The GFlops here is comparable to an i7 920 clocked at 4.6Ghz with 1.435v, HT off. Imagine the possibility if you’re running on custom water cooling.

Asus 12-inch 'EeeSlate' coming in 2011

Asus 12-inch 'EeeSlate' coming in 2011

After Computex, there has been no news about slates with Windows 7, which is rather surprised seeing how they promoted them back then. But now Asus Chairman Jonney Shih says that they will be back again at CES 2011, and promises “an Eee for everyone”. The slates will carry the “Eee” name, calling them the “Eee Slate” instead of the previous “Eee Pad”. Well I think that’s a good call, because the latter sounds like something else and not electronic.

Naturally, ASUS is also promising better performance and more flexibility than existing tablets. DigiTimes has also claimed that the EP121 (12-inch) will be targeting enterprise customers while two 10-inch Eee Pads (one with Windows 7 on Oak Trail and one with Android on Tegra 2) will hit retail as early as March for $499 to $599 for the mass market. Meanwhile, 7-inch Android models will also launch as early as March featuring either Tegra 2 or Qualcomm chipsets with at least one model featuring a “3.5G” radio for “phone functionality.” Here come the oversized phones.

Acer Aspire One 522 falls from the clouds, sporting dual-core 1GHz Ontario APU?

Remember AMD’s fusion platform APU “Brazos” which is based on AMD’s “Bobcat” architecture? It’s supposed to take down Intel’s almighty Atom platform, which currently reins supremacy over the netbook market, but thus far people have been able to compare it with Intel’s Core i5 Mobile platform instead. LG Optimus 2X hitting Europe next month

LG Optimus 2X hitting Europe next month

Well the LG Optimus 2X which is running on Tegra 2 will obviously be out in Korea, its home country in January, but now we also know that UK will be getting the mighty dual-core phone also in the first month of 2011. That’s about few weeks’ time to go. The 4-inch Android phone was stated to be launch in UK in a press release with 25 audio files (including 15 custom ringtones) from famed film composer Ennio Morricone, a man most recognizable for scoring those Sergio Leone “Spaghetti Westerns.” This comes as a rather odd surprise as thus far we’ve yet to hear anybody saying about this handshake. Well, at least it’s loaded with bullets and spaghettis.

HTC Incredible HD teased

HTC Incredible HD teased

HTC is teasing the Internet with its upcoming Incredible HD. Few sites have teaser pictures up already, but we can actually have a look at the complete unit, which should be what the final product looks like. The handset seemed to be a HTC Evo in a bigger unibody like the Nexus One, making it feels more upper class. There’s also the 8-Megapixel camera with dual-LED flash. The screen size is a 4.3-inch touchscreen, which seemed to be enormous. The Incredible HD seemed to have picked up the trend of the HD7 too, which comes with a kickstand.
