iPad 2 has a one-megapixel camera?

By now, news of the next iPad to have front and rear camera is considered old news. But yet we have again a news regarding iPad with camera. This time however, it’s a much detailed finding. 9 to 5 Mac has been digging through the latest iOS SDK and found some data referring to K94, which it claims is the codename for the next-generation iPad, and within that code sits a string reference to “Back Facing 1MP Photo.” Going further, the front-facing camera is reportedly VGA – same as the iPhone and the iPod touch. Of course this is still unofficial, but then again a 1-Megapixel back camera is rather dull.

India's $35 tablet delayed, might end up a vaporware

College students in India that eagerly awaits their country’s first budget $35 tablet might have to just continue their study and projects instead of daydreaming about this tablet, for now at least. Earlier this week, the Times of India reported that the Indian government dropped HCL Technologies, the company responsible for manufacturing the budget tablet, for failing to follow through on the 600 million rupee (or $13,198,416) guarantee – apparently lead from a disagreement over production costs is to blame.

Yes, this means that the promise by the country’s Human Resource Development Minister, Kapil Sibal, of a launch date of January 15th has been delayed. Though, India’s officials claimed that the project is indeed still on track and should be ready by this summer. While the government seeks a replacement for HCL, it seemed that there’s no way of fending off speculations that parts alone will cost more than $35.

Latest Cydia release lets you save your jailbreak apps

As we all know, every time Apple updates their iOS firmware, we had to kiss goodbye to our jailbreak, and start all over. But now, thanks to Saurik, Cydia’s newest feature lets you re-download those apps again and again without a single sweat.

With this Cydia update comes “Manage Account”. This feature lets you keep track of your packages and app purchases through a Google or Facebook account, and also saves you the time of hunting packages down in the repos or re-buying your paid apps after an update.

iPad camera apps found in iOS 4.3 beta

iPad camera apps found in iOS 4.3 beta

As if nobody knows, but here’s some proof to even further seal the rumour that cameras will be fused into the next iPad. The image above showing the three new iPad apps that was discovered in the iOS 4.3 beta 2 by MacRumors.

To be effective, the iPad’s Camera and FaceTime apps would require both back- and front-facing cameras just like the iPhone 4. The Photo Booth app is new to iOS but already ships on Macs running OS X — it could, presumably, use either camera to record snapshots (with filters) and video. Apple, please stop the rumour and just throw out the real thing.

Nokia E7 up for pre-order in Finland, shipping next month

Somehow Nokia wasn’t very happy that the HTC 7 Pro is up for pre-order, and thinks that its E7 workhorse loaded with the Symbian^3 is very much capable of giving it a good fight in this region. Nokia’s Finnish store has put the E7 up for a €599 pre-order, which is expected to get the all-business device to your front door sometime in February. Now, who will win?

Asahi Glass introduces Dragontrail for consumer electronics, scares the Gorilla

Corning’s Gorilla Glass might have a very tough competitor very soon. As we all know, the Gorilla Glass is famous for its scratch-free and super-duper durable glass, but now here’s Asahi Glass coming into play for this awesome market. The Japanese company is introducing Dragontrail, which is said to be on-par or even surpass the Gorilla Glass, if you watch the video below. Poking and prodding? Pass. Huge flexes? Bring it. Whacked with a hammer? Easy. The company indicates it’s been working on the product for years now and expects sales next year to surpass 30 billion yen — that’s $365 million. For glass. Yes, please make these glasses available on more smartphones, so that I can ditch the annoying screen protector that always peels off.

Nokia will fight Android and iPhone with Atom?

Nokia will fight Android and iPhone with Atom?

Nokia’s N8 failed miserably when compared to the likes of iPhones and Android phones in US, and they’ve learned a good lesson with that. Now the Finnish firm is ditching the Symbian for a much rock-solid MeeGo powered by Atom. Yes, Intel’s Atom.

Under a new Canadian-born CEO who spent much of his time working in the US, Nokia has joined Intel to roll up Maemo 6 and Moblin into MeeGo with Nokia’s first Maemo 6 MeeGo/Harmattan handset pushed into 2011. Simultaneously, Intel has also been doing its best to show its new Moorestown platform as a powerful ARM alternative, even showing off MeeGo handsets exploiting a Lincroft SoC and Atom processor core. And Intel has said that Medfield-based smartphones (Moorestown’s successor) would arrive in the middle of 2011.

It seemed that after selling off its ARM division, Intel is still keen to come back to the mobile and compact world where its X86 cannot rule. Nokia N9 is said to launch a new Nokia N9 slider smartphone with a 1.2GHz Atom processor at Mobile World Congress in February. Will the N900 successor really win back some Nokia fans?
