Compulab PC3 with dual-core AMD is less than an inch thick

Compulab PC3 with dual-core AMD is less than an inch thick

It’s hard to brain that tablets will replace nettops and netbooks, but apparently they won’t, because these tiny machines will get an uber boost of speed in the form of an AMD Fusion Zacate. The first example would be this little powerhouse from Compulab. The top spec for this tiny but sturdy nettop sees an AMD G-series T56N processor, which is a dual-core 1.6GHz while pulling down merely 18W TDP. Paired with a Radeon HD 6310, this will be a very strong machine to beat. What’re more; the two are so friend that they don’t need any fans to be cooled. Now that’s a very worthy contender for the future HTPC. There’s up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, room for a 2.5-inch HDD, HDMI and DisplayPort connectors, a whopping six USB 2.0 ports, and even dual eSATA if you need external storage. No word on price just yet but it’s said to be “competitive” compared to its predecessors, like the PC2, which currently costs between $300 and $700 depending on configuration. Have your fingers crossed guys.

ASUS’s Sirocco merely netbooks with gold paintjobs

ASUS’s Sirocco merely netbooks with gold paintjobs

ASUS has finally unfolded the curtain and reveal their Eee PC “Sirocco”, but it seemed to be a let-down for most people. It seemed that the “Sirocco” lineup Eee PC netbooks are merely the 10.1-inch Eee PC 1015PEM netbooks that is running Windows 7 Starter on a dual-core Atom N550 CPU, and comes with three options of paintjobs: purple, gold, or pink. Well, apparently this is the only way to get attention and categorize your products when you offer over 30 models of 10-inch Eee PCs worldwide.

AMD announces Fusion-based Embedded G-Series platform

AMD announces Fusion-based Embedded G-Series platform

AMD has just announced its new Fusion-based Embedded G-Series platform, and the company is targeting this platform into things like set-top boxes, in-car computers, and small form factor PCs and more. That platform include the low-power x86 “Bobcat” core that we’ve come to know about, and a “world-class” DirectX 11-capable GPU, which AMD says adds up to a level of advanced computing that simply isn’t available in the embedded market today. Quite some bold claims there.

Among the first products to apply this platform are pairs of Mini-ATX boards from Fujitsu and three SFF systems from Kontron, which will then be joined by a range of other products from numerous manufacturers that are likely to launch in the coming weeks.

Nintendo 3DS coming in March 25 for $249.99 in Europe, US on March 27

Nintendo show to the world their 3DS last year, but never gave a price or timeframe for this marvellous handheld game console that doesn’t need glasses for its 3D. But finally Nintendo officially launched the 3DS in a press event in New York and Amsterdam. The 3DS will be available on the 27th of March for $249.99, while Europeans will get it a few days earlier, on March 25th. European pricing, however, will be decided by retailers, which I expect it to be higher than the US price due to VAT and stuff, and we’re probably looking at something around €249.99. Read more…

What is this “HP Touchpad” that HP just registered?

What is this “HP Touchpad” that HP just registered?

HP has just filed for a trademark on “HP Touchpad” across a wide variety of products and services ranging from memory cards to tablet computers. Will this be related to the “gems” that the company might be announcing in February? A high chance that they’re linked. HP already has the name “ClickPad” for their laptop trackpads, so a fat chance that this will be related to the laptop touchpads. We shall see what this is all about coming February.
