HP Slate orders still delayed, still blaming 'high volume of orders'

These few days we’ve been hearing HP preparing two new WebOS tablets that’ll be introduced in February, but oddly HP’s original Slate 500 hasn’t even reach retail yet. The reason given by HP is of “material shortage” and “high volume of orders” which are causing the delays. There hasn’t been any official numbers in regards of the pre-order numbers, but HP does confirm a 9,000 unit pre-order last month. Hopefully the delay will not be pushed too far that by the time it reaches your front door, the next WebOS tablet is launched. It’ll be a shame to these Atom powered Windows 7 tablets.

iPhone with gesture multitasking, MobileMe a social app?

iPhone with gesture multitasking, MobileMe a social app?

It seemed that the iPad will not only be the one getting “multitasking” gestures like how you do it on your MacBook. In fact, BGR has a shot of a purported internal build with iOS 4.3 beta clearly showing the “multitasking” gesture feature switch, and these shots are from iPhones that seem to be prototype handsets with “Confidential and Proprietary, if found, please contact…” written on it, ending with a 408 number that belongs to Cupertino. So this should be the real deal. Yes, multitasking gesture on a 3.5-inch phone seemed stupid enough, but Apple seems to like that idea. Read more…

Triple-Display Flip Phone with Android

Everyone loves concept stuff as they look marvellous, but sometimes they’re just ridiculous. When it comes to cars, you get those striking looks and curves and aggressive “I’m gonna eat you” look, but when it comes to a concept phone, they tend to be triangle shape with three displays. That’s not ridiculous, that’s outrageously ridiculous, like this Flip phone from Kristian Ulrich Larsen.

Google Voice will let your port your own number, soon.

A reader has pinged Engadget about a certain Google Voice feature that lets you port you own phone number into its system. What does that mean? Well, your home’s telephone number can now be stored into Google Voice service in the cloud, and pushed to your many on-hand devices. Apparently Google has taken down this feature as the company claimed that it’s still being tested and may not be available to everyone.

Samsung goes deep into electrowetting display by buying Liquavista

Ever heard of the name Liquavista? Apparently they’re a Philips-spinoff, and Samsung has bought over the company last December. Now why would they do that? Well, Liquavista apparently pioneer electrowetting technology. Electrowetting has been said to be the fairy tale of all display company. It’s flexible, colorful, unbreakable, outdoor-readable e-paper screens with high refresh rates and low-power consumption that can be manufactured on existing assembly lines. Too good to be true, right? Well Samsung is playing with their luck by diving into this so called holy grail of display, as the company says that it’ll “expand its leadership in next generation display technologies by pioneering the application of electrowetting in e-Paper and transparent displays.” Surely this buy-over will help out a lot in Samsung’s flexible and transparent AMOLED technology.

Microsoft points finger at third party in Windows Phone 7 'phantom data' bug

A small number of Windows Phone 7 users are complaining about their new handset sending and receiving random packs of data for no reasons at all, and finally Microsoft has stepped up to clear the air, but they’re also pointing fingers. They’ve reached some conclusions from that investigation opened a few days ago, and apparently, there’s a “third party” that’s responsible for the misbehaviour, thought the company fail to mention the name. Microsoft’s already reached out to help that said “third party” make the necessary fixes, but the story isn’t necessarily over, though, because they’re still “investigating additional potential root causes,” which we presume could involve the operating system itself.

Well, Lexus has unleashed a new “The Hard Way” advertisement campaign to show them what it means to over-engineer their luxury cars.
