Sandy is at CES, and she’s officially available. But Dell is not going to make her the only attraction of their beastly mobile warrior, the absolute high-end Alienware notebooks. Dell is launching new M17x and XPS 17 laptops, and besides having Sandy in them, the laptops will also ship with a 17-inch, 1080p panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, perfect for interfacing with NVIDIA’s shutter glasses, and is including it (along with a new NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M for the XPS 17) as premium options.
Dell’s press release doesn’t specify if a set of 3D glasses will come with the new laptops, nor how much the upgrade will cost, but a 3D-capable M17x will start at $1,499 starting January 10th, and a stereoscopic XPS 17 will run $1,449 on February 1st. A simple hunch tells me that it ain going to be affordable anyway, especially when the silver alien head is still stick there.
Verizon’s LTE network will go big, very big, at least that’s what the company hope for. But the company will not let any chance of failing enter their territory, so they’ve teamed up with Electronic Art to boost the potential of their LTE network. Probably to show off the speed that it’s capable at the same time. It demoed its forthcoming Rock Band Mobile game for Android, which will let up to four players “jam together over the network,” making it the first game that can be played with friends over the network at launch. Well, that’s what the news and the press release said, so I guess the report is that simple. Sign up with Verizon, and have a jam with three of your buddies after work. Sound simple enough. Yes, it’s now officially official, and it’s going to Verizon’s LTE. The 4.3-inch phone is powered by the 1GHz Snapdragon and running on Android 2.2. Obviously it’s also equipped with the latest 4G technology, LTE. The 4.3-inch is a no-joke, as the Super-LCD display will not lose out much to Samsung’s Super-AMOLED. There’s an 8-Megapixel camera behind that’s capable of HD video recording, with DLNA and Dolby Surround Sound all present. It’ll be exclusive to Verizon to push their LTE technology, thus no announcement for global market. Probably a new name for the same model. Read more…
It isn’t good to drive and text, but now General Motors will let you Facebook instead when you’re driving. General Motors is initiating a public pilot program for OnStar users that allows you, the user to send and receive text messages and update your Facebook status using their voices. The program connects your Android 2.2 or greater device to the infotainment system through Bluetooth, allowing you to keep both your hands and eyes on the road, or the sexy girl in the next car. GM hasn’t announced how the pilot program works or who’s eligible to participate, but expect an official announcement soon. Now Facebook will be your traffic update report. Read more…
Over at CES, Honeycomb seemed to be the main show for Android, especially those tablets with dual-core processors, but Samsung is still not shy away to show off its Froyo-based Galaxy Tab that everybody knows about. But what’s so special in showing something that everyone isn’t bothered to know this time around? Well, for starter, this ‘updated’ Galaxy Tab gets a little speed bump with the Hummingbird going up to 1.2GHz, and getting the rear camera improved from 3-Megapixel to 5-Megapixel, probably due to Russia’s president mocking it. But what’s important here is that Samsung has stuffed in an LTE modem into the Tab, while still maintaining backward compatibility with existing 3G networks. Now that’s a very desperate upgrade for a product that’s out two months ago.
