VIA Nano X2 low power, dual-core chip gets official

Here’s a new processor from VIA, the Nano X2 low power dual-core chip. I’ve always thought that VIA quit fighting with AMD and Intel over tiny processors for netbooks and low power notebooks, but it seemed that they’re back at it. This is an x86 processor comprises two of VIA’s 64-bit Isaiah architecture cores, found in previous single-core Nano CPUs. The processors come with native 64-bit software support, VIA’s PadLock hardware security features, and VT CPU virtualization technology. The new Nano X2 chips are compatible with VIA’s previous processors, including the Nano, C7, C7-M, and Eden, facilitating easy upgrades. The VIA Nano X2 processors are already currently available for OEMs, with systems featuring the chips expected in the first quarter of this year. Don’t expect performance like AMD’s Bobcat or Intel’s dual-core N550 though.

Altec Lansing's inMotion Air speaker system

AirPlay is so cool right? Even the name itself is cool. But it’s a blunder that you can only have it if you have an iOS device. Well, fear not, because others also feel you. Rather than paying a premium to Apple for being an AirPlay partner, Logitech has come out with their own inMotion Air.

HTC ThunderBolt for Verizon and Inspire 4G for AT&T

HTC ThunderBolt for Verizon and Inspire 4G for AT&T

LTE phone will be the next big thing in 2011, and we’ll start off with HTC. The phone will be called “ThunderBolt”, and it’s going for Verizon. Yes, this is the phone that’s called the Mecha or Incredible HD previously. But that won’t be its only name. The 4.3-inch LTE phone will be called the “Inspire 4G” at AT&T. Thus far only Verizon has LTE network, and AT&T has HSPA+ airwaves, so they’ll probably call their HSPA+ as straight-up 4G, unless the company announce a sudden LTE network?

Motion Computing's Oak Trail-powered CL900

Here’s a Windows 7 tablet, but don’t be fooled by its look. This is no ordinary tablet, as this CL900 by Motion Computing is powered by Intel’s upcoming Oak Trail Atom processor, which the company promises up to eight hours of battery life as well as 1080p playback over HDMI. But that’s not the only special thing about this tablet, you see the tablet meets the MIL-STD-810G spec, which means it can survive a four foot drop, and its Corning Gorilla Glass display should be able to withstand all sorts of small size assault, like a pen stab or something. Not a real chopping board but still capable of helping you survive a quick knife stab.

iPad 2 found at CES 2011

iPad 2 found at CES 2011

iPad 2 has been spoken off in harsh words out in the wild for a few months now. Chinese manufacturers have been daringly churning what they say is iPad 2 case, but it seemed the western side is also doing the same thing. Engadget spotted an iPad case at Dexim’s booth, but was said that their iPad would not fit into the case because it’s too fat, and the case is specially designed for iPad 2. That’s odd. The thing isn’t even out yet, and they’re brave enough to develop a case for something that has yet to exist.

The case has a Bluetooth keyboard that magnetically adheres to the front cover of the book-like sleeve, allowing for a laptop-style setup, or a keyboard-free case when you want to shave a few ounces. The crew notice the case to be slimmer than the first-gen iPad, with a taper leading to the edges that seemed like what the iPod touch has. There’s a home button positioned nearer to the bottom edge, and also a large square for the speaker.

So, manufacturers from the East and West are already churning up Apple’s next big thing, and front-and-back cameras are a sure thing, besides a large speaker at the bottom. iPad 2 might be nearer than we have though.
