World’s first iPhone-connected blood pressure monitor

World’s first iPhone-connected blood pressure monitor

The world’s first iPhone-connected blood pressure monitor, that’s what the company Withings is calling this. With an aim to make measuring vitals as easy as pie for iOS users, this should be a great product to have, especially when teenagers and young adults these days are ‘too busy’ to keep their body in check.

The idea is fairly simple: just plug the arm band into your iPad, iPod touch or iPhone, dial up the gratis app and start the process. All of the data is logged on the user’s secure online space, and there’s even a secure sharing feature that’ll beam your abnormally high rates right to your frightened physician. It’s on sale around the globe now, with the asking price set at $129 / €129.

Hitachi CinemaStar C5K750 And 5K2000 HDD for the living room

Hitachi CinemaStar C5K750 And 5K2000 HDD for the living room

Hitachi has announced new product for their CinemaStar family lineup, which is the CinemaStar C5K750 and 5K2000. Both hard disk drives are optimized for the growing digital video recorder (DVR), IPTV set-top-box (STB), video surveillance and emerging hard drive-embedded TV markets. That’s the hard disk for your video streamer at home. The 2.5-inch CinemaStar C5K750 is Hitachi’s first CE drives in the market with Advanced Format, which increases the physical sector size on hard drives from 512 bytes to 4096 (4K) bytes. It is currently available in 750GB, 640GB and 500GB of storage spaces, but considering rivals already have 1TB products around, this will not be very appealing to customers.

Available in 1.5TB and 2TB of storage capacities, the 3.5-inch CinemaStar 5K2000 family comes equipped with the CoolSpin technology to deliver a greater level of power efficiency and quiet operation for energy-conscious, environmentally-friendly computers, much like Western Digital’s and Seagate Barracuda’s green drives. The CinemaStar C5K750 and 5K2000 families are now shipping to customers worldwide.

Silicon Power’s new USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drives

Silicon Power’s new USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drives

Silicon Power is bringing you a new line of USB 3.0 portable hard drives called the Stream S10. They come in four different capacities, 320GB, 500GB, 640GB and 750GB. But what’s more eye-catching is the sleek and curvaceous design that the company stated is inspired by Italian sports cars. Indeed, these portable bricks are only short of four spinning wheels and some doors. The hard drives are running on USB 3.0 interface that are of course backward compatible with USB 2.0, and are bundled with a 60 day trial version of Norton Antivirus. This should be interesting, as I would like to see how this trial software handles the widespread viruses in portable storages. Pricing and release date are still unknown at the moment.

Samsung's most energy efficient edge lit LCD

Here’s a display from Samsung, which will probably not enter the mass market any time soon. Samsung is showing off this LCD TV at CES because it produces a 1080p content at 240Hz, with edge lighting only on two sides instead of the traditional 4. Samsung says that due to this the TV only uses 48-percent energy compared to existing models with LED backlighting. That’s around half the energy used, which is a good thing. At least we know that Samsung is concern about your home CE’s power consumption. This innovative prototype also managed to nab Samsung a 2011 Innovation award.

AOC’s tablet entry is a BREEZE

AOC has been aggressively marketing their monitors, but all of a sudden they’re also venturing into tablets. AOC has announced immediate availability of the Breeze, the company’s baby ultraportable tablet for the Android tablet market. The 8-inch tablet sports 800 x 600 pixel touchscreen powered by a Rockchip processor. Common features are like Wi-Fi 802.11g, a 4GB internal memory, single USB 2.0 port, microSD card expansion, and running on Android 2.1 Éclair. Nothing fancy here, but this doesn’t seemed like a great idea considering that Honeycomb is just around the corner. Battery life is expected to be around 12-hours (audio playback), and 6-hours (video playback). Priced at around $200 each, you can expect the AOC Breeze Android tablet to be demonstrated at CES 2011.

Dyson’s new vacuum is the lightweight champion

Here’s another new product from Dyson, after their futuristic bladeless fan. It’s the Dyson DC35 Multi floor, a Dyson Digital Slim cordless vacuum cleaner for every floor type. The idea is to make this futuristic-looking vacuum cleaner to be the most powerful lightweight cordless vacuum cleaner. Inventor James Dyson said that the device’s motor “spins five times faster than a Formula 1 car engine”. What’s more, the vacuum cleaner comes equipped with a detachable long-reach wand and a motorized cleaner head. The battery-powered Dyson DC35 Multi Floor retails for $469 each. Not exactly a cheap vacuum though.

Dell ST2220T 21.5-Inch Multitouch Monitor

Wanted a touchscreen HD monitor but don’t want the crappy hardware of the All-in-One? Dell has just the right product for you for your fingering sessions. Dell has just announced the availability of their new multitouch monitor ‘ST2220T’ via its online store. This isn’t your ordinary monitor that uses cheapo TN panel, but instead this 21.5-inch widescreen monitor makes use of an IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel and provides 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution, 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 250 cd/m2 brightness and 8ms G2G response time, thus resulting in deliciously beautiful images. In terms of connectivity ports, it comes with USB hub, D-Sub, DVI and HDMI. The Dell ST2220T sells for $310. Would be a great start for you to build your own iMac running Windows 7, with touchscreen.

G.Skill’s new memory for Sandy is very flashy and jaw ripping

G.Skill today presented its brand new RipjawsX series memory modules, which is designed specifically for the Sandy bridge collection of Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 central processing units, which also has their NDA lifted today for the world. The new RipjawsX series consists of a myriad of products, with capacities of 4GB or 8GB, even 16GB, and frequencies of 1,333MHz to 2,300MHz. All modules are equipped with red, blue or black-colored heatspreader, and more extreme ones are bundled with a fan for extra active cooling. Combined with the Sandy Bridge platform, the new G.Skill RipjawsX series memory kits offer more bandwidth and performance than previous Intel Core platform. You can get up to 25K MB/s bandwidth at extreme memory speed of 2,300MHz CL7. Looks like Corsair Vengeance has a new rival.
