CES is just around the corner, but Samsung is still not slowing down in teasing their upcoming CES demos, probably to show LG that they’re not giving up the fight. Samsung Electronics will demonstrate the 950 Series 3D LED display at the upcoming CES 2011. The new 3D LED display comes equipped with a unique asymmetric design, besides being very slim. The Samsung 950 series also features a unique metallic stand and the company’s Touch of Color (ToC) technology. We can guess that all those bulky electronics stuff are squeezed into that beautiful stand. Let’s see what it really is at CES.

Here’s a very green way of charging your brand new iPhone 4, though it’s not the fastest around. Designed by Eric Strebel for the Kickstart challenge, the Solar Vox is a small, rugged USB solar charger developed to recharge all your USB supported handheld devices such as cell phones, smartphones, Apple iPods, PMPs and portable gaming consoles.
Now the catch here is that the solar charge is designed to enable four optimum solar angles of 0°, 30°, 70° and 90 degrees, making it versatile any time of the day anywhere on globe. The Solar Vox uses standard USB connectors, so you won’t need any special USB adapters or converters to charge your device. Simply use the USB cable that came with your device, plug it into the Vox, and you’re done. It is easy to assemble and disassemble and the solar panel has a life span of over 10 years. Obviously the Solar Vox has standard rechargeable “AA” batteries, found in stores throughout the world, in it to store energy. Typical charge time for the “AA” 2500mAh internal batteries or a phone to a 50% charge boost is approximately 4 hours of direct sunlight. So a full charge means that you can’t really use your phone for a day. But still that shaves some off your electricity bill.

AMD seemed to be working hard at CES to prove a point. They’ve dropped Bobcat to the centre of the show, but they’re not going to let Nvidia go ahead with the mobile sector too. Today’s the day of the official launch for AMD’s second-generation DirectX 11 mobile chips, the HD 6000M family.
The new arrivals are the HD 6900M / 6800M in the gaming-centric high-end (offering up to 1.3 teraFLOPS of compute power), the HD 6700M / 6600M in the upper midrange, and the HD 6400M to provide mainstream users with all the discrete graphics loving that they desire.
The 6000M range introduces AMD’s new HD3D eyecandy, which will allow apps, games and other media to dance in 3D to you, then again that depends on the developers anyway. There’s also the EyeSpeed, which is a marketing name for a set of technologies designed to improve video streaming and gaming performance by taking on more tasks with the GPU. AMD also has an exclusive on hardware acceleration for DivX video, if you always stream online videos or watch HD contents using your notebook.

Now you know why your buddy has a guitar.

AMD has always been behind Intel when it comes to market share and performance. After their one-hit wonder Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 X2, they never seemed to manage to catch up with Intel ever since Core 2 Duo roamed the earth. Yes, they do manage to close the gap, but that’s not going to help the company a lot if all they can do is follow up behind all the time.

Everyone is showing 10-inch netbook with Intel’s N550 dual-core Atom processor at CES, but HP has something more special for the visitors. At slightly less than 1 inch thick and 3.5 pounds, the dm1 is one of the first laptops to use AMD’s new Fusion platform, which is powered by AMD’s new “APU,” an accelerated processing unit. AMD’s new platform combines a traditional CPU and better-than-integrated graphics (and DirectX 11 support) on a single chip. The CPU is AMD’s new 1.6GHz dual-core E350, “fusion” with AMD Radeon HD 6310M graphics. Read more…
