Gigabyte slips out Atom N550-based M1005, Q2005 netbooks

Gigabyte is said to introduce two new Atom N550 based netbooks, the M1005 and Q2005. These are already listed in the company’s website, but not much info is given yet.

As Netbook News notes, the latter of those (pictured above) looks to be remarkably similar to the Jolicloud Jolibook, also based on the same dual-core N550 processor, while the M1005 appears to be a relatively minor update to the company’s M1022 model, right down to the same docking station (check it out after the break). Still no indication of pricing or availability for either of them, so you’ll probably wait for CES as we’re expecting plenty of N550 based netbooks by then.

Dell to introduce new Latitude netbook with N550 in CES

Dell is said to launch a new Latitude 2120 netbook at Vegas next week. Pretty much the same deal from the previous 2110 netbook, but this time around it’ll be powered by the new N550 dual-core Atom processor.

While the upgraded processor is the big news, sources indicate the newest Latitude gets an optional Broadcom Crystal HD video accelerator, which should be a welcome addition for those students planning to watch March Madness during that 10AM lecture this spring semester. No word on price or availability, so interested parties will have to wait until the official launch for such details.

Flashing your Wi-Fi?

Flashing your Wi-Fi?

Flashing as in flashing your lights. Blinking. LED stuff. Crazy stuff, but it’s real. LVX System of Minnesota has installed wireless internet network in the form of blinking LED lighting system in a few office buildings in St. Cloud. The wireless building in these six city buildings come in the form that does not rely on the 802.11 standards, but more of flashing lights.

Still blur? Well, it’s like morse code, but it’s not. The flashing lights come on and off so quickly that they are imperceptible by the eye. The lights come from LED fixtures overhead, which also double as lighting for the city workers. The light fixtures consume about 36W and provide the same sort of illumination as a 100W fluorescent fixture. So, yes it acts as your light, and it also act as your wireless network.

LG ST600 Smart TV Upgrader for your dumb TV

Apple TV? Well, not everyone wants that. It does look sleek and sexy but not everyone has a HDTV. LG’s latest “Smart TV” has internet connectivity and compatibility, but their ST600 Smart TV upgrader is for those that do not own any smart TV.

It adds DLNA connectivity for some wireless media transfer fun, grants access to a “vast range” of premium content as well as local programming, throws in a web browser, and finishes things off with LG’s TV Apps selection. Of course, this is the week of the pre-CES announcement, hence we’ve no pricing to share yet, but the way the company’s talking about it, the ST600 sounds like it might make an aggressive MSRP its standout feature. Sadly, that’s a bit of a distant hope for now as this Upgrader isn’t expected in shops until Q2 2011.

Here’s a diagram from Asus, and straight forward it’s filled with the full family product names of the upcoming slates and tablets from Asus’s Eee family. The EP121 is touting stylus input and a wireless keyboard, the EP102 showing that there will indeed be a slider in ASUS’ Pad family and the EP101 looking like a typical laptop. There’s also a media-centric EP71, whose proportions make it seem likely to be a sort of oversized PMP. CES will be filled with Eee stuff from Asus it seemed.
