UK and French carriers working on cellular coverage for Channel Tunnel

UK and French carriers working on cellular coverage for Channel Tunnel

When it comes to underground tunnel, you usually get no reception while commuting in them. But that’s about to change in London as the city’s Mayor has been active in encouraging the major British carriers to install the necessary equipment to provide coverage in the tunnels.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Vodafone, O2, Everything Everywhere, and Three from the UK along with Orange, SFR and Bouygues from France have agreed to share the cost of putting together a £20 million ($30.8m) project for making cellular coverage possible while traveling through the 31.4-mile Channel Tunnel between the two countries.

The goal is to get things up and running by the Olympics in 2012, though we’ve no indication as to what speeds those wireless data transfers will reach. Still, having some bars is better than none, especially when you’re going to travel for long period of time.

Plantronics Voyager Pro+ Bluetooth Headset

And I though Plantronics are venturing into Bluetooth headset. But they’re actually not. The company is collaboration with iSKY Networks, and is today announcing the availability of the Voyager Pro+ Bluetooth headset for the South Korean market. This Bluetooth headset allows you to listen to your favourite music and podcasts thanks to A2DP technology, which can also stream GPS directions from your mobile. In addition, you can also take advantage of Plantronics Vocalyst voice and text services, allowing you to manage your email, check the weather, and listen to news. The Voyager Pro+ supports the advanced dual-mic AudioIQ2 technology, which is designed to block background noise while retaining the natural sound of your voice for crisp, clear phone conversations. Folks in South Korea are able to buy the Plantronics Voyager Pro+ for 109,000 Won ($96), but you’ll need to wait awhile if you want them and aren’t in Korea.

NES emulator lands on Windows Phone 7

NES emulator on Windows Phone 7? Why yes, it’s already here. Matt Bettcher has managed to squeeze in an NES emulator into Microsoft’s latest Android and iOS killer, but with a pretty bad luck though.. Usually we will see this kind of stuff crawling into new OS, like Android and iOS. But Microsoft seemed to be rather ignorant, and is keeping the emulator out of the Marketplace (as per its no-funny-business terms of service). Matt’s trying to drum up some community support to change Microsoft’s mind on the matter, and in the meantime he’s planning to open source his project. Good luck mate!

Cr-48 with Leopard and Seven

Google’s Cr-48 is still a developer’s laptop for the Chrome OS, and the company says strictly no dual-booting of OS. But that didn’t really stop anyone from installing other OS in it right? As usual, we’re now seeing hackers successfully squeezing in this stuff into Google’s matte black notebook. First up are Ubuntu, and now Mac OS X, and Windows 7.

Boys Hurt Themselves More Often Playing With Wii

January 4th, 2011

Boys

We’ve heard of Wii-related grievances ever since the launch of this motion detection console in late 2006. Be it errant Wii Remotes that gets launched into someone’s face or an innocent bystander getting caught in the path of a fake tennis swing, or the dead of a brand new HDTV after eating a flying Wiimote, the simple and basic action of playing the Wii can easily lead to injuries. But did you know that boys playing with their Wii are more likely to be injured than girls?

Patrick O’Toole, Robert Miller and John Flynn did a study as part of their work for the division of Orthopedics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia found that boys accounted for 49 out of the 92 motion-control-related injuries. That’s about 53-percent which is not a big number if you consider that there can only be two subjects.

Waiting in line, for what?

Waiting in line, for what?

First day of 2011 and what did you do? I woke up late due to hangover, but some people woke up at 6AM for something else. The picture you see above is taken at China, and what are they waiting in line for? New iPhone 5, or the legendary white iPhone 4? No, they’re waiting in line for a so called “iPhone 4 ripoff”, the Meizu M9.

Rob a restaurant? There’s an app for that!

January 4th, 2011

Rob a restaurant? There’s an app for that!

Here’s a 20-year-old punk name Jerome Taylor, who puts on a mask, walked into a restaurant, and asked for some money. That’s called robbing from where I came from, and usually you’ll need at least a knife or a Glock in order to accomplish such mission. Some faked it, while others got themselves some real tools. This dude however, used an iPhone.

Now, the boss of the restaurant might be rich, but usually chefs don’t carry much (or any) cash around. Thinking that Mr Taylor might be carrying a real handgun, the chefs armed themselves with their usual tool, the knives, and that scared the shit out of this young robber.

Terrified by the knife-wielding staff, Taylor suddenly “became apologetic and told the cooks he was only kidding and that he needed money for his child.” He managed to flee before the police arrived, but it didn’t take them long to catch up with him. At that point Taylor revealed that he didn’t have a gun and had threatened the cooks with an iPhone.

Despite the restaurant staff insisting that no charges be pressed because they felt bad for Taylor, the man was charged with attempted robbery and interfering with an officer. But I’m still curious. How can he afford an iPhone and not food for his baby? Young dads these days are really…
