Motorola Xoom price official: $799 unsubsidized on Verizon, $600 for WiFi-only

Motorola Xoom price official: $799 unsubsidized on Verizon, $600 for WiFi-only

We’ve seen a few leaks here and there, and everyone was so anxious with the bizarre price. Now you can really go and faint for real. Motorola’s Honeycomb tablet, the Xoom has finally been given a proper price by CEO Sanjay Jha. Reuters reports a $799 levy for the 32GB Honeycomb tablet when bought with 3G (which will be upgraded to 4G) connectivity from Verizon sans subsidies, while Jha is also quoted as saying that a WiFi-only version will set buyers back at ‘only’ $600.

The latter price matches the 32GB iPad directly, however the 3G Xoom is $70 more expensive than the Apple alternative. However, CEO Sanjay Jha told reporters that the Xoom’s LTE upgrade (for the 3G model) will be free later on, and that wonder of wonders, the tablet will be capable of pulling down 50 megabit per second speeds, or so he claim.

There’s no mention of the launch date yet, but strong indications tend to slide to tomorrow for pre-order or reservations, and full launch on next Thursday.

LG Optimus Pad will be priced at €999, in Germany at least

LG Optimus Pad will be priced at €999, in Germany at least

LG and Motorola seemed to be waging war at the moment. There’s the Motorola Atrix 4G versus the LG Optimus 2X for dual-core Android phones war. Then, there’s this LG Optimus Pad versus the Motorola Xoom for dual-core Android Honeycomb tablets war. We’ve got official pricing info for the Motorola Xoom, at $799 for the 3G version, but now we have a sort-off official price for the LG’s dark knight, and the price is quite smelting high. The Optimus Pad will be priced at €999 in Germany. However, direct conversion of the price is not actually a way to reflect how the tablet may actually be priced in US and worldwide. There’s a 19-percent VAT on Germany pricing, as usual in Europe, and as we look at pricing trends of Europe and US, there’s a possibility that the tablet will be priced at $999 in US and worldwide, instead of $1,350 if you do a straight conversion, or even $1,199 if you remove the 19-percent VAT. Then again, $999 is still two hundred bucks more than Moto’s Xoom, not to mention Apple’s iPad. Ouch!

Toshiba to release its Windows 7 tablet in the second half of the year

Well, Toshiba’s 7-inch Folio 100 seemed to be a big flop in their lineup, no thanks to the awful Android that it uses and that lousy screen. However, Toshiba is not giving up, as they still have another unnamed 10-inch Honeycomb tablet, and another Windows 7 slate. Apparently, these tablets won’t be hitting the market until the second half of 2011.
