Android phone gets driver out of a ticket

Do you trust your local police? I sure as hell don’t, especially at times when all they want are extra pocket money. Some doesn’t even know how to use their equipment properly, which is demonstrated in this incident.

Sahas Katta is a college student, and getting a speeding ticket he was not pleased. However, he managed to get away with the ticket, legally, with the help of his Android smartphone and a simple Google App. Katta was pulled over and charged with going 40mph in a 25mph zone. However, he managed to prove that he’s only going 26mph. But how did he prove that? Well, he was running My Tracks by Google in the background on his Motorola Droid phone.

The free app records and visualizes GPS data on a map, tracking distance, average speed, average moving speed, and max speed. Katta downloaded this information to Google Docs and brought it with him to the courtroom. He was able to convince the judge that the officer might not have been using his radar gun correctly, introducing enough reasonable doubt that he was declared “not guilty”. Yes, you might say that you can alter data of Google Docs, but well, why spoil the fun of that? Remember this trick next time guys. Should be very handy!

Intel promises native USB 3.0 support “in the future”

Intel promises native USB 3.0 support “in the future”

USB was started by Intel, but when USB 3.0 came along, Intel didn’t actually hug it. Odd balls, but Intel actually went and create a new baby called Light Peak, which is now known as the mighty Thunderbolt. Everyone’s been leaping into the USB 3.0 bandwagon the natural way, except for Intel which still refuses to support USB 3.0 natively like how they pushed USB 2.0. So there’s no hope anymore? Well not really.

“Intel fully supports USB 3 and plans to integrate it in the future,” said Jason Ziller from Intel. But that’s all that he said. When will this actually arrive, Ivy Bridge? Considering how Intel has been refuting the support for USB 3.0 and many manufacturers of peripherals still not going full blast with USB 3.0, Intel might be waiting until Thunderbolt actually matures with a pile of peripherals, then they might consider having USB 3.0. Who knows?

MobileMe taken down, no more, or some big changes?

After announcing an iPad 2 event on March 2, and refreshing their MacBook Pro last night, Apple now takes down their MobileMe. So what’s going on? Probably something big or at least a big change towards the MobileMe service.

The company has apparently now discontinued the boxed version of the software it sells at retail, and it seems that all traces of MobileMe have also been removed from Apple’s online store, though you are still able to sign up for a free trial through the MobileMe website. Read more…

LaCie and Promise unveils first Thunderbolt-equipped device

Yes, Apple might be the first to announce Thunderbolt on their MacBook Pro, but according to Intel, Apple doesn’t actually have a timed exclusive on the technology. Intel might be targeting an early 2012 launch for Thunderbolt with other OEMs, there’s nothing stopping other manufacturers from launching machines with the 10Gbps interconnect a good bit earlier if they so desire. Preview of Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 side profile

The Geneva Motor Show may be next week, but some people in this world are already very impatient and wanted to share the glorious Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 with everyone. Here’s a high resolution view of the side of the Aventador, given to Autoblog by an anonymous person not from Lamborghini. Probably some photographer working on publishing the car for some magazine or so. So, feast your eye with this super crisp high-resolution picture of the Aventador before it goes official on Monday. Looks stunning, but noticeably a Lambo no matter how you look at it. Look as if there are so many changes yet so little, from each generation of the Lamborghini.

e-Books now in Android Market, challenging iBooks?

What’s Google up to right now? Last week, Google’s Android Market has been getting new URLs, including http://market.android.com/music/ and http://market.android.com/movies/. But they’re not the only one. There’s also the http://market.android.com/books/, which has now gone live. That’s right; you can now pick up your favourite reading material over at the Android Market for mere $9. Since the ‘books’ URL is up for book worms, maybe the ‘music’ and ‘movie’ will too, soon, when Google announce their Google Music later this month in their Honeycomb event.

Xtreamer Prodigy is good looking yet fast, and even plays with your AirPlay

Now here’s one good looking media streamer. After launching the company’s Ultra HTPC, they now unveiled their new Xtreamer Prodigy. It’s a Realtek 1185-based media player and streamer that sports USB 3.0 connectivity, 256MB RAM, 512MB NAND flash, HDMI, an integral IR remote control, a multi-card reader and a 3.5-inch HDD bay. Sadly no Thunderbolt here, but it’ll come eventually anyway. Now, what’s so special about this Xteamer Prodigy compared to others, is that its GUI is made of Adobe Flash, making it quite cool to use. Moreover, there’s support for Apple AirPlay, which would make many Apple fans very happy indeed. There’s also support for Mediafly, Google Talk, Last FM, Pandora, Facebook, and more. Thus far there’s no specific time and price, but it’s rumoured to cost €119, which seemed quite reasonable.
