The spirit of otakus in Taiwan, salute!

February 25th, 2011

Respect to the otakus of Taiwan. It may be weird, but I’m seeing a man fighting for his dream. Though some parts are really ‘lol-able’.

Apple's Light Peak implementation to be called Thunderbolt

Apple's Light Peak implementation to be called Thunderbolt

We already know that Apple’s going to refresh their MacBook Pro, and we already know that Intel’s going to announce their Light Peak, and Apple’s going to put them into their new MacBook Pros. What we didn’t know is that Apple has a fancier name for this Light Peak thing. Apparently it’s going to be called ‘Thunderbolt’, which is indeed more striking than simply ‘Light Peak’, but hopefully HTC won’t sue them. According to the USPTO archives, Verizon’s the only tech company with any trademark claim filed for “Thunderbolt”, so we’ll see how this evolves.

Minecraft going to iOS and Android

Enough with shooting pigs using angry birds, it’s time to be miners! An official version of the popular game Minecraft is coming to the iPhone, iPad and even the Android.

Speaking with Kotaku earlier this month, Mojang’s head of business development Danial Kaplan said that while the developer had discussions with third party developers, in the end they decided to “do the iOS/Android version of Minecraft inhouse.” The port is almost complete, and is due out later this year.

This may be the first time a port of a game hits a mobile device before the game itself is done. Minecraft is still in beta, with vague plans for a full release probably later this year.

Battlefield 3 will be epic, because Jet’s back!

February 25th, 2011

There’s no way to confirm what we saw in the video above, but they do claim to be real in-game footage or what you call actual gameplay. The game’s graphic is already jaw dropping. Crysis 2 won’t be the only game with insane juicy eye-candy apparently. Yes, this is the next Battlefield game, and it’ll be coming this fall.

They’re using FrostBite Engine 2.0 this time around, as Bad Company 2 uses FrostBite Engine 1.5. The new video shows in-game footage of U.S. Marines taking on hostile PLR forces in Iraqi Kurdistan. Some of you may not have this mission though.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 hitting Vodafone Portugal in March for €699

We’ve already got the pricing for the upcoming Galaxy S II, and now the pricing for Galaxy Tab 10.1 is also out. A short press release from Vodafone Portugal mentioned that it will be hitting Vodafone Portugal first in March for €699. Not exactly cheap, but still pretty much similarly priced with other tablets like the Motorola Xoom. If you’re looking to get it with contract, you can refer to Vodafone Spain for guidance, as they have it with contract for €349 this coming spring. Then again, this is European price, so it might differ if you’re in different continent.

Motorola Atrix 4G gets the ifixit-ed, ‘4G’ suffix missing

Motorola Atrix 4G gets the ifixit-ed, ‘4G’ suffix missing

As usual, when it comes to new gadgets, it usually will be heading towards some surgery from the hands of some very curious people with balls made of steel. Thanks to the folks at iFixit, we get to see the organs of the Motorola Atrix 4G. Usual stuff they find in there, like the 16GB NAND flash, the 960 x 540 PenTile LCD, the 1GB RAM, and the mighty Nvidia Tegra 2 CPU.

The Motorola Atrix 4G doesn’t have any Wimax or LTE chip inside, but it’s called 4G because of the Qualcomm MDM6200 chip which gives HSPA+ support to the phone, and many carriers and hardware manufacturers are calling their products 4G because of support for HSPA+, which is kind of misleading actually.

According to iFixit, the glass panel is not glued to the LCD, meaning that if it cracks, you don’t have to spend extra cash replacing the display as well as the glass. Hit the source link if you wish to know more about the organs of the Atrix.

Official: Apple's holding an iPad 2 event on March 2nd

So, it’s official now that Apple will indeed be holding a media event on March 2nd. If you look at the picture above, which is sent together with the email to media groups, this is probably going to be all about iPads. Hopefully Apple will also make some comment on their new MacBook Pros and the white iPhone 4 saga.

Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed, it’s authentic and realistic

February 25th, 2011

Polyphony’s GT5 is a great game. But what you saw in the trailers might not be what you will experience in the real GT5 game. Frankly speaking it’s quite a let-down when I played GT5. It’s a sim-racing game alright, but it’s not great. GT5 might have realistic driving, but this game got some serious shit realistic racing. Yes, we’re talking about Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed.
