Koenigsegg Agera R arrives, ready to take the throne back

It was known that when Mercedes was busy building their SLS AMG supercar, Koenigsegg knew about it and went back to the drawing board. Same goes for Pagani, and we know what came out from the drawing board of Pagani. Even Lamborghini took part in this supercar war with the new bull Aventador LP700-4, and now Koenigsegg has officially thrown into the pool their version of supercar, the all new Koenigsegg Agera R, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2011.

The Agera R is a real monster, even capable of challenging the almighty Bugatti Veyron. The new twin-turbo 5.0-liter V8 engine provides the Agera R with 1,155 horses at 6,900 rpm and a staggering 1,200Nm of torque at a low 4,100 rpm! 1,000Nm of torque is available from 2,700 rpm all the way to 6,170rpm. And the magical top speed? A bizarre and unbrainable 440km/h!

You see, the Aerodynamics of the Agera has been honed and perfected over many years in CFD and wind tunnel in order ensure best possible outcome. Even with the massive dynamic rear wing, the drag of the Agera is only Cd 0.33, in high speed mode and Cd 0.37 in track mode. Even though the Agera is a full 2 meters wide, it only has a frontal area of 1.87 m2. This results in a Cd x A value of only 0.62 and thus a theoretical top speed of around 440 km/h (Agera R), given the gear ratio and power available. All Agera models are limited to 375 km/h in standard mode, but can be unlocked by Koenigsegg for shorter periods of time, if all necessary conditions are met, such as road condition, tire wear, service level of car etc. The car is set in full speed mode by unlocking the top speed mode in the Infotainment system.

Due to the tires, advanced suspension and aerodynamics, the Agera achieves lateral accelerations up to 1.6 g in dry conditions with improved handling in wet. The new tires were developed for the Agera through testing at the Michelin Ladoux test centre in France. The tires fitted to the Agera are rated for speeds over 420 km/h making it the highest top speed rated tire in the world, whilst offering cup tire levels of grip and outstanding wet performance, all in one package.

All that power is funneled through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with paddle-shifters and an electronic differential. The engine and the transmission work in concert to push the Agera R from 0-62 miles (99.77km) per hour in a scant 2.9 seconds. Stay on the gas, and you’ll reach 124 (200km/h) mph in 7.5 seconds. If you decide to slam on the binders the moment you hit 124 mph, the entire trip will take 12.7 seconds to get back to zero. My car can barely reach 62 miles per hour with these 2 times combined.

All the power that the Bugatti Veyron has, but with a look to kill. This is a wet dream come true! Even the doors look more awesome than the gullwing Mercedes AMG SLS.
