Nvidia’s dual-GPU GTX 590 sold out in US

Nvidia has just announced that their just-released dual-GPU GeForce GTX 590 graphic card, the company’s latest flagship product, has since sold out here in the States.
The GTX 590 is Nvidia’s answer to AMD’s monster dual-GPU Radeon HD 6990. Both are packed with DirectX 11 support and geared to gamers with big, big wallets. The AMD solution is priced at an impressive $700 whereas the Nvidia card is asking nearly $650.
Given the card’s high price point, Nvidia launched the GTX 590 in modest, limited numbers, of just a few thousand cards in Europe alone. Currently online e-tailers Best Buy, Newegg and TigerDirect seem to be out of stock in the States, but cards are still available to purchase overseas according to them.
Reason for the cards not flying off the shelves that quickly compared to US is speculated to be due to the sky high price, prompting reports of Nvidia dropping prices to get the cards moving off shelves. Price tags are now hovering around 603 to 610 euro although that seems way too steep, due to VAT taxes. It has been a tradition that retailers in Europe placing the price of electronic products nearly identical to the MSRP of the product price in US despite the difference in currency.
If you’re in the market for an uber rig, and have some greens loaded and ready to burn, now’s the time to get them while there’s still some left, though I won’t be surprised if retailers are starting to jack up the price due to supply shortage.
