AMD Bulldozer chip benchmark score surfaces, deja vu coming?

AMD Bulldozer chip benchmark score surfaces, deja vu coming?

It’s hard to believe, what’s more with no pictures, just pure score of some benchmark of AMD’s upcoming Bulldozer chip. A member of Chiphell has posted scores for AMD’s Bulldozer based Zambezi processor and pit it against Intel’s Core i7 980x and 2600k processors, and seem to be winning by quite a big margin. If this is true, then AMD might have a good chance at fighting with Intel at the top-tier market. Of course, this can be purely made-up figures.

EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 590 pricing leaked, yours for $719?

EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 590 pricing leaked, yours for $719?

The card’s NDA is about to be lifted anytime now, but the mystery of Nvidia’s latest flagship graphic card is still surrounding us, with more so called ‘leaked’ fake pictures surfacing onto the Internet. Here’s a leaked photo of an unknown internal inventory system listing the GTX 590 from EVGA for $719. Tiger Direct has also listed the card for a whopping $730. If you’re seriously considering the card, do remember that a single GF110 GTX 590 easily consumes about 300W of power, and 350W after overclocking. The GTX 590 will contain two GF110 chips, so you’ll need about 700W at least for the card alone. Having a MSRP of above $700 seemed fair enough, which is close to AMD’s Radeon HD 6990 and Radeon HD 5970.

Top Gear China first episode aired

Top Gear China first episode aired

There’s the original Top Gear UK. Shortly after Australia had their fair share down under with much controversy at the beginning too, and then the Americans were jealous and had their too. Now, it seemed that BBC is working hard to milk the world’s most popular Automotive Show ever aired, and presented to us Top Gear China.

It’s started with a leaked photo that sparked the rumour, and then some short teaser-like video, and now it finally aired in China, at time where the three others were on a break. I guess the project actually was kept a secret for a long time. Watch the first 15 minutes of Top Gear China after the jump.

The Chinese spin-off follows the same format as every Top Gear franchise, sporting three energetic hosts, silly challenges and a studio audience made up of attractive girls and trendy-looking dudes. The first episode of Top Gear China includes a comparison test between a Cadillac and a donkey, apparently to see which is better at graining dry corns. Not as hilarious as their original UK counterpart, but it does provide some level of entertainment for the Chinese audience.

Mozilla Firefox 4 RC now available for Android and Maemo

March 24th, 2011

Mozilla just made Firefox 4 officially available for desktop, and surprisingly Firefox 4 for mobile is also already available, in release candidate form that is. Of course, the app has been beta for six months. According to Mozilla, this new build provides a better overall user experience with faster scrolling and improved Firefox Sync, along with other awesome features like Awesome Screen smart shortcuts, tabbed browsing, Firefox Add-ons, and Persona themes. Sounds very much like its desktop counterpart. Head over to Mozilla’s page for the Android and Maemo download links.

Intel to show the next generation Atom chips at IDF Beijing

March 23rd, 2011

Intel to show the next generation Atom chips at IDF BeijingIntel’s Atom processor was a hit 2 years ago, but Apple’s iPad veni, vidi, and just vici like that, and now Intel’s Atom processor is getting few hits around by Apple’s popular and evolutional and magical iPad, and the competitor Android tablets, and AMD’s uprising APU platform. Things aren’t looking good for Intel. However, Chipzilla isn’t giving up, and intends to introduce its latest Atom processor at IDF Bejing this year. UMPC Portal noticed that Intel’s got a session titled “Designing a New Generation of Netbooks with the Intel Atom Processor Based Platform” at the April event, which promises to give attendees a glimpse at the “next generation Intel Atom processor based platform.” Details are scarce, but there are a couple of bullet points that might grab your attention. First, Intel will be talking about “WiFi solutions that deliver new netbook usage models,” which sounds kind of like WiDi, and second, the company will be talking up “fanless netbook designs.” This must made our imaginations ran wild. Atom chips on tablets and smartphones? Bring on the challenge!

New MacBook Pro’s Thunderbolt causing flickering issue on some Cinema Displays

March 23rd, 2011

Apple’s products have almost always given issues to users, especially new products that just got launched by Apple, and the new MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt is no exemption. Yes, the issue this time is caused by the brand new Thunderbolt port itself. The Thunderbolt port is a new I/O port that’s nearly three times faster than the USB 3.0, and can also act as a DisplayPort, and that’s where the problems lies. A small number of new owners of the MacBook Pro that hook up their new machines to their Apple Cinema Displays are seeing random flicker on both 24-inch and 27-inch Cinema Displays when connected via their Mini DisplayPort/Thunderbolt combo port. Some also confirmed that even replacement machines from Apple are exhibiting the same behavior, though this is said to be “not a widespread issue” by Apple. Hopefully Apple is able to release a firmware fix for this bug timely.
