The final mission of Mass Effect 2 arrives to embrace Mass Effect 3

This time, Commander Shepard travels to the edge of the galaxy to rescue an undercover operative that potentially got hold of an evidence regards to an impending Reaper invasion. That’s the story of Mass Effect 2’s Arrival downloadable content.

This final batch of downloadable content (DLC) for Mass Effect 2 will set the stage for the next game, Mass Effect 3, making it a can’t miss expansion to what some people around here considered to be last year’s Game of the Year. What’s more, Arrival also features the return of Admiral Hackett, lovingly voiced by the gravelly voice of Lance Henriksen.

“All year, we have been extremely honoured and humbled by the reception we have received for Mass Effect 2 from players around the world, including our post release DLC”, said Casey Hudson, Executive Producer, Mass Effect series. “Mass Effect: Arrival is an exciting extension to Mass Effect 2 and will show players just how close the Reapers are to returning and completing their deadly harvest.”

Arrival will be available on March 29 for 560 Microsoft points, 560 BioWare points, or $6.99 and is available for PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3.

iPad 2 supply line affected by Japan disaster

March 19th, 2011

iPad 2 supply line affected by Japan disasterOnce again, electronics products industry in Japan is being affected by the disaster that struck the country last Friday. Despite its factories mostly situated in China, Apple’s iPad 2 productions is also affected by the disaster, making the situation worse for iPad 2 buyers as the stock is already running low since launch day.

According to Asia Times, the iPad 2 battery and memory are made in Japan, and with electrical shutdowns, disrupted transportation system and employees understandably staying home, supplies of these parts are terribly low.

iSuppli mentioned that Apple will also face difficulty getting the iPad 2 internal compass provided by AKM Semiconductor and touch screen components likely sourced from Asahi Glass Company. At present, Apple appears to be able to build the iPad 2 for 2-3 weeks before the parts shortages impact the company.

The iPad 2 went on sale in the US on the same day the tsunami struck Japan, and Apple has announced few days ago that initial sales of the iPad 2 in Japan will be delayed. Our hearts (and funds) go out to the people of Japan who are struggling with the many challenges they face.

The most painful board game

March 19th, 2011

When you’ve not nothing better to do, and you want to do some very cruel things to your pals, then you should learn a thing or two from these boys at GlazeBros. Good thing I don’t have much body hair, except for some parts that are off limit.

It’s still a lovely idea for a board game. I know of some dudes that look like monkeys, it’s time to suggest this game.

Apps charity starts as developers slash apps’ price

PopCap has announced that all their iOS games, like Bejeweled, Bookworm, Chuzzle, Peggle, and Plants vs. Zombies, are getting a price drop for 48 hours to raise funds for Japan’s earthquake crisis.

Partnering with Red Cross, PopCap will donate all of its revenues from the sales, which begin Saturday March 19 at 12:01AM PDT and ends midnight PDT on Sunday March 20. iPhone games will be 99 cents while iPad games will be $1.99.
Sega has also put some of its apps, including Street Fighter IV, on sale for just 99 cents. Everything from the sale will go to the relief effort for earthquake victims via the Red Cross.

ChatTime, the iPhone app that allows you to make calls through your iDevices, has announced that for the rest of the month, all calls to Japan from the app are completely free, which a similar move is made by both US carriers AT&T and Verizon. Of course, ChatTime allows you to call internationally from anywhere.

Gaming may be the last thing that you’d want to do in such situation, and certainly you shouldn’t be moved to donate just because of a free game, but it’s still a good effort to push more people into donating.

If you already have these apps, or don’t want to buy any apps, and still wish to donate, do head over to RedCross’s website.

March 19th, 2011

Nokia teams up with Rovio to create a massive 3D projection on a 150-foot tall Austin building during their opening party at Texas for the event South by Southwest. What’s it about? Well, obviously Angry Birds on Nokia. A pretty cool way to promote the game I might add.

Crysis 2 slightly more lenient than its predecessor

March 19th, 2011

This latest Crysis 2 video gives another look at the gunplay and suit-enhanced choreography of the upcoming computer and console shooter, played on the computer. Though the demo was limited to “medium” graphic setting to minimize download side, it still portrays a good glimpse of how Crysis 2 will run on your computer. The game does seem to be very smooth and somewhat better then Call of Duty.

Crysis 2 will be released on March 22nd for the PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox 360.

Google guesstimates release dates for movies and games

Google guesstimates release dates for movies and games

We all know how powerful Google’s search engine is, but the real crazy people are the programmers and developers behind it. You can do so much with the company’s search box, like calculation and conversion and translation, even find someone. But now, it’s going to be even smarter. Searching for the title of an upcoming movie or video game plus “release date” will now instantly give you Google’s best guess for when the title will actually be released, which is apparently based on how often it’s been mentioned on certain websites. So far, we’ve only been able to get it to work with movies and games, although it seems pretty likely that it will soon expand to other areas as well, like maybe gadgets? Some titles work, while others don’t. It’s not fully intelligent, yet. Go ahead and try it yourself.

Amazon Appstore to offer cheaper Android apps

Earlier today, someone at Amazon accidentally made Amazon.com/apps accessible to everyone who went to that specific URL, and upon visiting, it shows Amazon’s upcoming app store for Android. Of course, the link has been taken down by now.

But a few lucky visitors actually took the time to visit Android Marketplace and compare the price of apps available at both sides, and it seemed that Amazon’s got some exclusive deals. There are 14 apps that are cheaper on Amazon, and Amazon even have some exclusive apps such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Force Recon, 3D Spider Walk, Brainwave Tuner and Highborn. Angry Bird Rio will also be debuting exclusively at Amazon Appstore this month. However, the apps can’t be bought yet.

Android News has got a full list of the price differences between Amazon and Google’s respective stores. Check it out if you’re interested!
