Is Nokia building a tablet? Well, yes it seems so, some time ago.
March 16th, 2011
Nokia’s been struggling to play catch-up with the smartphone world, but they’ve also been expressing interest in penetrating the tablet world too, but all these while they’re just news with world. Finally today we have a clearer picture of Nokia’s motive, in the form of some sketches, courtesy of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Minority iPad 2 suffers backlight bleeding

Apparently the iPad 2 won’t be able to escape ‘defects on arrival’ that also haunted the iPhone 4 during release. Of course, bear in mind that this issue is among a few iPads out of millions sold, so the problem shouldn’t be consistence. The first issue that many spotted is the same yellow spots beneath the LCD glass, reminiscent of the same fresh-from-the-factory iPhone 4 issue that resolved itself just as soon as the bonding agent used for the LCD glass had time to evaporate. The second issue, which is being conflated with the first, is characterized by light bleeding through from the outer edges of the LCD panel. The bleeding is most noticeable when watching a dark scene in a movie or using an app with a black background. For those affected, the issue can be minimized or exacerbated by adjusting the brightness in settings. Of course, Apple has mentioned that exchange will be available once stock is replenished in the Apple store. Read more… Foursquare tries out an NFC-based check-in system at its HQ

Google started the hype of NFC with their Nexus S, and it’s cool to just ‘check-in’ at places by tapping on a simple board. Now even Foursquare is into this game. Business Insider discovered something of a surprise while touring Foursquare’s New York headquarters for launch of Foursquare 3.0. It turns out that the company is already testing out an NFC-based check-in system at its HQ, which lets those with a suitable phone (such as a Nexus S) share their location simply by tapping it against a blue dot on the wall. Of course, this is only a leak picture, and Foursquare currently hasn’t comment on this, so there’s no indication of when this will actually be released to the public. But I foresee this to be in a very near future. This is why having NFC on your phone is fun. SOURCE via Business Insider iPad 2 jailbroken, public release coming soon

This was expected, everyone was waiting for it, but nobody actually though that it’ll be this fast. Only merely two days after the iPad 2 was officially sold, and @comex has already squeezed in Cydia on this white iPad on Sunday. Right now he’s also hard at work on a public jailbreak. According to his Twitter feed, the hack required a brand new exploit, as previous bugs were squashed in iOS 4.3. SOURCE via @comex (Twitter) Google adds EV charging stations to Google Maps

One downside of owning an electric car is that you can’t simply stop and recharge like how conventional cars go to petrol stations and refuel once you run out of juice. If electric cars are ever going to replace their gas-guzzling ancestors, we’ll inevitably need a few more places to plug in and charge up. Google started using Prius as their driverless car for their Google Street View, and now they’ve added a new database of EV, and that is Google Maps with locations of all the charging stations in US. This will easily enable drivers of EV to locate places to get their juice replenished while on longer trips or when out of town. Now it seemed more ‘fun’ to own an EV, though it won’t be fun if you run out of juice or the battery crack the hell out of you. NFC chip in smartphones are becoming the trend of 2011 after dual-core, all thanks to Google’s Nexus S touting it as a major feature. We also previously heard that Apple has considered having NFC chip in its next iPhone, but after a long and secret development, it seemed that Apple will skip NFC for this year. That particular source is reportedly coming directly from meetings with the Cupertino top shots, which is said to be dissatisfied with the current lack of a clear, universal NFC standard. Well, Apple has always omit or delay features it seemed not fit for its generation, and NFC looks to be fated this way this time. Yes boys and girls. We haven’t given up on the white iPhone 4 that Apple promised, despite knowing that the iPhone 5 is very near the horizon. The iPad 2 has a white variant on launch day, but why aren’t the white iPhone 4 in shelves now? After hearing from Apple that it was being delayed twice in 2010, we never heard from Apple about it anymore, despite all the rumours that resurfaced in January. However, this time the news is starting to come from Apple directly. Well, at least Apple’s personnel. In response to a question on how to obtain a white iPhone, Philip Schiller fired back: “The white iPhone will be available this spring (and it is a beauty!).” That’s as crystal clear as it gets, there’s a white iPhone coming this spring. But which? The old iPhone 4, or the next and new iPhone? I can’t wait? No more iPhone 4 with China-made white case for me. SOURCE via Phil Schiller (Twitter) |
