Foursquare 3.0 is here, makes assassination missions easier!

Foursquare, is it a game, or is it an app? Apparently it started off as a location-based mobile game that pioneered the check-in, but now I’m not sure what it is anymore. Foursquare is now an awesome app for people who want to be stalked, or show off to all their friends where they’re going. Surprisingly this stalker-happy app has already been on the business for two years now, and the company has officially rolled out Foursquare 3.0. Read more…

JBL intros OnBeat iPad / iPhone / iPod speaker dock, prices it at $150

We’ve seen aplenty of ‘iDocks’ in this world, can’t hurt to have another right? What’s more when it’s from JBL. Better news than another new Justin Bieber coming out anyway. Right, here’s another new dock from JBL, but it’s the company’s first iPad-enabled speaker dock, called the OnBeat. Sounds good. The dock doesn’t only support the iPad, but also the iPhone and iPod Touch, though JBL didn’t comment on whether the new iPad 2 will be recognize or not. Aside from providing joints and jams to those situated in your living room (or basement, if that’s how you roll), it can also pipe Netflix and YouTube content directly to one’s television via a composite video output, and if you’re running around sans an iDevice, the 3.5mm auxiliary jack ensures that any other source will still function just fine. You’ll also be able to charge and sync any docked devices, but you’ll be asked to dole out $149.95 in order to bring one home when it ships in April.

Swim with the fishes in a dolphin-shaped Seabreacher

Swim with the fishes in a dolphin-shaped Seabreacher

It’s not a dolphin or a shark, but it does look like one. It’ll let you swim with the fishes but you can’t touch them. It also add a certain level of security if you met a shark or a kraken half way while swiping around, but it’s yet to be rated by the safety organizations. This is the Seabreacher, and it’s a new breed of watercraft machine, capable of swimming in the sea and on it, though the latter would be very bumpy.

The Seabreacher is powered by a 260-horsepower 1500-cc Rotax four-stroke engine that benefits from a supercharger and intercooler. All that power is used to propel the Seabreacher to speeds of up to 50 miles per hour over the water, or 25 mph when under the surface.

Check out Translogic’s Bradley Hasemeyer have his hands on this new Seabreacher, and if it makes him seasick instantly.

Researchers manage 448Gbps on commercial hardware

March 9th, 2011

Researchers manage 448Gbps on commercial hardwareJealous of other countries having 10Mbps or 100Mbps of Internet speed? Well, now you have something even more to jealous about. We’ve seen many new tech from many researchers demonstrating lightning-speed networks, but most use some rather special purpose hardware — like lasers and such that your average ISP doesn’t have hanging around. However, this new benchmark of 448Gbps is a little more impressive because it was achieved on commercial fiber hardware. A few teams of researchers were the ones shoveling the bits, including the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, the National Inter-university Consortium for Telecommunications (CNIT), and good ‘ol Ericsson. It’s said to be the world’s first transmission line operating at that speed, and what’s most impressive is that it’ll be tested on further network segments in the coming months ahead of becoming an actual product at some point in the not-too-distant future, though I think you still shouldn’t put your hopes too high.

Western Digital to Acquire Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, smirks at Seagate

Western Digital has announced a very surprising and monstrous deal to acquire on of its primary competitors, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies.
