Watch Google’s driverless Prius screeches its tires

When it comes to driverless cars that’s automated by computers integrated in the car or through zillions of lasers and command by a super computer through super-fast unknown LTE technology, we always assume that self-driving cars are very slow. Well apparently not.

At last week’s TED conference Google brought out one of its infamous autonomous hybrids to show off to attendees, and The Big G’s engineers had it squealing tires and clipping cones at the top of a parking structure. Just to prove a point that slow-moving robots are the things of a past. Read more…

Google Maps Navigation for Android automatically reroutes around traffic in real-time

Remember the update that Google has for its free and highly popular Maps Navigation app for Android, the V5.2 that we talked about not too long ago? Apparently there’re some very unique features that Google placed inside it, and this time it’s one that’s very useful to many.

It seemed that the Maps Navigation app for Android takes traffic information into account and automatically routes your journey for you, so that you don’t have to tune in to that silly radio channel just to check on the traffics.

The previous version of the app would choose the shortest route or offer alternative directions that included side roads, but Google’s geeks have developed a new algorithm that uses both current and historical traffic data to create the fastest route from point A to B. It’s available from Google Mobile right now.

AMD takes the throne of graphic card back with Radeon HD 6990

Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 was the king of single-GPU card graphic card, and possibly single-card graphic card of DirectX 11 as it’s very capable of rivalling the AMD Radeon HD5970. However, the life of being on the throne sure is short-lived for the GTX 580, as AMD has thrown in their Radeon HD6990 officially. The new dual-chip Radeon HD 6990 has arrived, and succeeds the mighty Radeon HD 5970 which has served AMD very well for all these months. The AMD Radeon HD 6990 was launched today and is already the fastest single expansion board you can possibly plug into your almighty blisteringly fast rig, until Nvidia release the GTX 590 (or GTX 595) of course. But for now, this will very much do the trick. Read more…

Yamaha VSP-1 Voice Masking System, your nearest choice for Darth Vader voice

The size might be less compact than you imagine, but it’ll do. Yamaha will be launching the new VSP-1 Voice Masking System in Japan. It’s a small speaker-like device that will mask your voice in public areas, just in case you don’t want your ex to know that you’re sitting in the next table behind that wall.
Sound masking is the addition of natural or artificial sound into an environment to cover-up unwanted sound by using auditory masking. This is in contrast to the technique of active noise control. The Yamaha VSP-1 is available in 8 different sounds to cover your conversation. What’s more, the gadget can be also arranged in different configuration and either mounted alone or in-group. Yamaha will release the VSP-1 Voice Masking System in April 2011 for 105,000 Yen ($1,276). Read more…
