Saudi Arabia does the unthinkable, plans to build a mile-tall skyscraper

Proud of your Petronas Twin Tower? Think the Burj Khalifa is very tall and crazy? Nope, these are nothing. Prince Al Waleed Bin Talal, head of Kingdom Holding Company recently gave his approval for construction of what will be billed as the world’s tallest man-made structure — the Kingdom Tower. Yes, bizarre!
Designed by Adrian Smith, the Kingdom Tower will be built in Saudi Arabia’s city of Jeddah. The tower will stretch one mile up into heavens and include 12 million cubic feet of space, several stories of office space, several stories for a hotel and four tiers of residential space, with the upper most tier reserved for “alternative energy generation” solutions (perhaps including a pendulum to keep the entire tower from collapsing).
Right, there’s a lift in this building, which will take about 12-minutes to reach the top from the bottom. Now, can you hold your fart that long? Because I don’t think I can. What’s more, what if you’ve reached the bottom of the building ready to go home just to realize you left your phone up there. That’s about 24-minutes wasted, not including finding your phone. Now, what if you need to crap?
