Despite Sony mentioned that “no evidence credit card numbers were stolen” in the attacks on the PlayStation Network, it has still recommended people to make necessary precautions regarding their cards and bank accounts.
According to Kevin Stevens, an online security expert with TrendMicro, “low-level cybercriminals” are currently shopping around lists supposedly containing the credit card details of 2.2 million PlayStation Network members.
Stevens says the details are up for sale on the illegal forums of “carders” (people engaged in credit card fraud), and while he does not link these forums directly, says the sellers are claiming to be in possession of card holder’s names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth and, perhaps most importantly, full credit card details, including their CVV2 numbers (those three numbers on the back of your card).
Now, as far as I know, I’ve never seen PSN requesting my CVV2 though people did mentioned that Sony does request users input the digits at least once, but there has been no CVV2 numbers stored in the PSN as far as I’m concerned. What’s more, I’ve not even remembered PSN requesting me to key in my home address. So what does this mean? Well, the highest possible thing is that the sellers are faking things out, and blatantly claiming things that may not even possibly be stored in the PSN database in the first place.
A fan of the assassin franchise spotted a message on the Assassin’s Creed Facebook page which leads to a Flash file that urge fans to “Spread the Word” to reveal an exclusive look at the next Assassin’s Creed game, and lurking within the Flash file was this logo. Is this the next game in the franchise that will be a Facebook game?
Further analysis discovered that the Arabic writing appearing in the flickering video atop the Flash page read “Altair Ibn La Ahd” backwards, or “Altair, Son of No One.
Is this a new console version of Assassin’s Creed starring the first game’s protagonist? A spin-off for iOS or a handheld system? According to another image pulled from the Flash file, all will be revealed in the May 13 issue of Game Informer.
EA stopped developing Need for Speed based on the popular illegal racing scene, as the last were Undercover, and it wasn’t very inspiring. The last two games from EA, which is Shift 2: Unleashed and also Hot Pursuit sees a good comeback for the Need for Speed franchise. Now they’re going back to the illegal street racing theme yet again, and it’s going to be called ‘The Run’.
The Run will have quite similar storyline and style with Undercover, where there are plenty of hot rides with a healthy dose of drama, as usual from Need for Speed where we see the gamer gets chased by the law enforcers and also the dark side gangsters while he climb up the chart of notoriety. Yes, it’s Fast and Furious yet again.
Hit the jump to watch the first trailer for the upcoming game. The clip is short and it doesn’t reveal much, but we did catch a glimpse of an Audi R8, a Porsche Cayenne, a Mustang and even a Ford Taurus Police Interceptor. That’s not a lot to go on, but the post-jump press release says gamers will “blow across borders, weave through dense urban traffic, rocket down icy mountain passes and navigate narrow canyons at breakneck speeds.” Sounds like it could be fun. All these coming on the 15th of November this year.
Don’t like Motorola Xoom’s plastic chassis? Then here’s another alternative that feels slightly more posh yet cheaper to have. Acer’s new Iconia Tab A500 has the same Tegra 2 horsepower and the same Honeycomb OS, but is housed by a brushed aluminium back which will make you feel better when holding it. Going for $450, you’re also getting a full-sized USB 2.0 port. So who’s complaining about no USB port? There’s even 16GB of storage and the usual 802.11n WiFi connectivity. It’s the real deal man!
It seemed so, as US carrier AT&T has just sent in an Acer Iconia Tab to FCC for approval. If it’s not going to launch the smartphone, then I’m not sure what else. FCC has just got their hands on the Android 2.3 smartphone from Taiwan, which reveals that the quad-band GSM handset is headed to both Canada and the US.
If you’re not sure what this ‘yet another Honeycomb smartphone’ is, it’s an Android phone from Acer that is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255, along with 512MB each of ROM and RAM, an 8 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, a 2 megapixel front-facing cam, micro-HDMI output capable of 720p, a 1500mAh user-replaceable battery and all the usual 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 and GPS trimmings you’d expect.
Now that it’s going through FCC, we’re expecting launch date very soon.
Remember the game Driver? Well it’s back, and this time they’re going to host the havoc in San Francisco. According to Joystiq which had the privilege to try out the game before its launch, the storyline picks up after the conclusion of Driv3r, which means we’re done playing around in the late ’70s.
Just like how they build the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Ubisoft Reflections has gone through the trouble of rendering a fair portion of down town, Marin County, East Bay and Treasure Island for our crazy wrecking run.
The story goes along Tanner winding up in a coma and spends the rest of the story line haunting San Francisco and possessing random drivers to track down the infamous Jericho. Apparently players can snap up any vehicle they see simply by lining up a reticle and pressing a button.
A bad time to launch the Motorola Xoom? Yes, I’d say that. The Motorola Xoom was debuted at CES 2011, and finally the “world’s first” Honeycomb tablet has arrived on our shores through Maxis. Currently the only model coming in here is the 32GB WiFi-only model, as the 4G LTE model is not supported over here in Malaysia, yet.
So, there’s no 3G for this model, how is Maxis going to sell this tablet with data plan? Well, the Motorola Xoom launch date is from the 6th of May till the 22nd of May, and if you pick up a Xoom and sign up for a 2 year 3GB contract in that period, you will get a Motorola Defy absolutely free. The Defy as per most modern Android handsets will allow you to share your 3G connection with your Xoom via the WiFi hotspot feature and will make sure you’re always connected wherever you have cellular data. What a nice method to clear old stock.
Frankly speaking the Motorola Xoom will be having a hard time in Malaysia, as the crowd is more oriented towards Apple products. What’s more this is the period where the new iPad 2 is being launched here in Malaysia, where the cheapest iPad 2 can be had for merely RM 1,499 (16GB), while the model that it’s contending with, the 32GB variant only cost RM 1,799. Maxis will sell the Motorola Xoom for RM 2,499, along with a ‘free’ Defy and 3GB of Internet data. Maxis have said that after the 22nd, the price will stay unchanged, but it’s unclear if the Defy deal will continue.
Since most potential buyers will already have a smartphone with them that ‘most probably’ have a WiFi Hotspot feature in their phone, you’re better off with a cheaper tablet, if you know what I mean. Jailbreak is awesome!
