G-Technology to launch products with Thunderbolt support in 3rd quarter
April 13th, 2011
Looks like Thunderbolt goodies might just be coming very soon. G-Technology just announced at NAB that the company will be adding support for the high-speed connection to its line of RAID devices for those who spend their days chopping up HD video. The first batch of products will hit in either Q3 or Q4 and start with the company’s smaller arrays in the four to eight-disc sizes. A prototype of a four-drive model can be seen in the photo above. The thing might look quite bulky to us, despite the representative calling it “the sweet spot” in terms of portability and storage. Well, despite the size, do remember that this thing is not for your normal movie exchange with your friends, but caters more towards people editing video on the go. April 13th, 2011
When being asked is it possible, National Geographic answered “How hard can it be?”, and they literally made the balloon house in the cartoon movie UP into real life. Sadly though, the video doesn’t show you how they bring the house back. So do check if there’s any house floating above you. Don’t want a house to crash on you do you? Mobee’s Magic Bar brings inductive charging to your Apple bluetooth keyboard and Magic Trackpad
April 13th, 2011
Remember the inductive Magic Charger for the magic Mouse? The folks that introduced that cool and magical charger are back to give you another awesome charger. This time we have the Mobee Magic Bar, which can energise either an Apple Wireless Keyboard or a Magic Trackpad thanks to their identical dual AA battery compartment. To get some wireless charging action, simply install the supplied battery cylinder to either device (presumably extra cylinders will also be available for purchasing), and then slide the protruding part into the charging dock. Of course, the nature of this setup limits the number of compatible devices (unlike the flat Magic Charger), but this is still more convenient than unscrewing the lid every time you run out of juice. The Magic Bar is now available for $59.90 at the end of June, and pre-order starts on May 15th. SOURCE via Mobee Technology Is Apple now fiddling around with carbon fiber?
April 12th, 2011
After fiddling around and having the taste of liquid metal, Apple now seem to have set its sight on the durable yet lightweight carbon fiber that’s popularly used in the automobile sector. With the exception of the MacBook, Apple’s entire Mac lineup is currently cut from aluminum. Apple is seen to have a patent application for a process that would use carbon fiber materials woven into the reinforced device housings of mobile telephones, laptops, desktops, and tablets. Interestingly enough, the patent app was filed by Kevin M. Kenney (developer of the first all carbon fiber bicycle frame) on behalf of Apple back in 2009, a man who changed his job title to “Senior Composites Engineer at Apple Inc.” on LinkedIn at some point after March 1st (according to Google cache). Though laptops with carbon fiber is still out of the reach at the moment, but having some carbon fiber material used on smaller devices like smartphones and tablets, mixed with aluminum or liquid metal, seemed to be a possible idea. Samsung Galaxy S II coming officially to UK on 1st of May
April 12th, 2011
Great news for those in the UK that is waiting for the brand new Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone, the Korean giant has officially announced its arrival date in the UK, which is 1st of May. The Galaxy S II will emulate its predecessor by being made available “across all major networks and retailers.” The press release promises a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, which indicates we’re looking at the Exynos 4210 variant of this handset. However, this does not confirm that the whole Europe will be getting it on that day thought. Intel rolls out Atom Z670 Oak Trail processor for tablets
April 12th, 2011
Built using a 45nm manufacturing process, the Z670 runs at 1.5GHz and promises to support 1080p video with the aid of Intel’s GMA 600 integrated graphics, while also keeping power consumption to a minimum and allowing for smaller, thinner, and fanless devices. As we’ve seen, there’s also plenty of manufacturers already lined up to release devices based on the processor, and Intel says we can expect to see over 35 “innovative tablet and hybrid designs” from the likes of Fujitsu, Lenovo, Razer and Viliv over the course of 2011. That’s a very odd name list. SOURCE via CNET |
