Android 2.3.4 heading to Nexus S right now, we can only see in jealousy

Right, as we happily awaits the arrival of our Samsung smartphone with Android 2.3.3, Google has cunningly update their Nexus S with ‘Google Experience’ to a new Android 2.3.4 over the air. This version brings along lots of bug fixes and optimizations, as well as the addition of video and voice chat to Google Talk. Apparently you’ll be able to do it anywhere you can get a web connection going, whether by virtue of WiFi, 3G, 4G, or 36G, and other Gingerbread handsets are expected to get the same improvements in time. Right, so hopefully the manufacturers are quick to deliver this. As usual, those ‘Google Experience’ products are the only ones that will be getting this update at the moment. Hopefully Samsung and HTC will be quick to have this in their Gingerbread phones.

Nokia assessing the right tablet strategy, don’t want to be like everyone

Nokia assessing the right tablet strategy, don’t want to be like everyone

Apple rolled the dice for portable and slim tablet with the iPads, and everyone followed. RIM just launched one, and HP Palm will have not one, but two, shortly after. Even Sony has geared up for two at least, and let’s not forget all the Honeycomb doppelganger tablets that are about to flood the market. So, now that Nokia is taking a new path to revive their smartphone division, they’ve also taken consideration for the tablet market. But they aren’t in a rush for a supersized N8 tablet just yet with WinMo.

According to an interview with YLE television in Finland, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop is taking a very calculated approach to tablets, saying, “We could take advantage of Microsoft technology and software, and build a Windows-oriented tablet, or we could do things with some of the other software assets that we have. Our team right now is assessing what’s the right tablet strategy for Nokia.”

Does this mean that Nokia will still consider a MeeGo tablet? Nokia has a few options in hand, which is a Windows 7 tablet, a MeeGo tablet, a MaeMo tablet, even the next Windows 8 tablet that sounds so friendly with touchscreen devices.

Here’s what the Canadian CEO said during the interview:

There are now over 200 different tablets on the marketplace, only one of them is doing really well. And, my challenge to the team is I don’t wanna be the 201st tablet on the market that you can’t tell from all of the others. We have to take a uniquely Nokia prospective and so the teams are working very hard on something that would be differentiating relative to everything else that’s going on in the market. -

Q. So you’re not in a hurry?

We’re always in a hurry to do the right things, but we’re mostly in a hurry to do the right thing.

Foxconn workers charged for iPad 2 leaks

Foxconn workers charged for iPad 2 leaks

We’ve come to known about it months before it’s launched in March, but the rumours of iPad 2 has come to a sad ending. Three employees of Foxconn, which manufactures Apple products and other electronics, are said to have been charged for violating the company’s trade secret agreement by allegedly leaking design details of Apple’s iPad 2 to the media ahead of its release.

Chinese news site Sznews says that the three workers have been arrested by local police in Shenzhen, China in December of last year, and were formally charged last week. Apparently they’re the origins of the mock up and iPad 2 cases that we saw, as the alleged leaks gave several accessory makers time to draw up designs ahead of the iPad 2′s unveiling.

We can probably blame the accessory manufacturers for so impatiently revealing an accessory case of a product that has yet to hit the market. Then again, publicity stunt will greatly bump the brand name of the company so nobody’s to blame.
While some of those designs did not match up to what Apple eventually unveiled on March 2, a handful nailed features like the cameras, rounded back, relocated speaker and microphone, and thinner enclosure.

Following controversy over worker suicides at the manufacturer, Apple, Dell and HP began investigations into working conditions. Apple released its report based on audits of 127 facilities back in February. Foxconn has since raised worker wages, with Apple working to train workers and supervisors alike in worker rights, labor laws, and safety measures. That’s why we’re seeing less ’14 floor’ cases from Foxconn, but then again I don’t see huge improvement in the environment.

Ubuntu 11.04 ‘Natty Narwhal’ introduces new Unity UI to the penguin’s computer

Ubuntu 11.04 'Natty Narwhal' introduces new Unity UI to the penguin’s computer

Ubuntu has just released another update to its popular operating system for the Pingu Army Republic, which is 11.04. This version is also known as Natty Narwhal for the penguin tribes. It’s a usual exercise that the Canonical folks update the operating system around twice per year, which is usually in April and October.

Anyway, this version has a significant change, which is the introduction of Unity desktop environment, which was previously relegated only to netbooks. It’s got integrated search, a combination launcher and taskbar, and app menus that have been moved to the top of the screen, similar to OS X. What you see here is probably the combination of the best elements from Apple and Microsoft, with a different UI skin of course.

The new UI is not without its detractors and reportedly has some stability issues, but you can always choose “Ubuntu Classic” to stick with Gnome. The update also makes Firefox 4 the default browser and replaces the Rhythmbox music manager with the sleeker and more functional Banshee.

The ISO is 700MB in size, and is already available for download. As usual, it’s gratis.

Adobe Flash for Android hardware-acceleration to require Android 3.1?

Adobe Flash for Android hardware-acceleration to require Android 3.1?

When Adobe announced their Flash 10.2, they also proudly announced the new full hardware-accelerated potential on Honeycomb. But it missed, but a huge mile. Now, the company is claiming that they’ve finally found a solution, but it’ll only appear on the new Android 3.1.

Yes, this is the first time we’ve heard of Android 3.1. Google has never mentioned of this new update, and frankly speaking there’s hardly any devices out there that’s running Android 3.0 besides Motorola Xoom, therefore we never even though about the next update Android 3.1.

Apparently, Android 3.1 will be live soon after more Honeycomb tablets are out there in the market, which we predict will be in summer. Adobe said that in order to take full advantage of the true hardware acceleration, this new update will be required.

How many people can you stuff into a MINI Countryman?

How many people can you stuff into a MINI Countryman?

Sometimes we find it funny, and also kinky, at the event ‘Clown Cars’. Clown cars means that you stuff as much clowns in a car, and they emerge out of the car in a funny way. When BMW launched the new roundish MINI Countryman for country men, they did a similar event yet again, over at Penang’s Hard Rock Hotel in Malaysia.

So, how many people can you actually bring to your golf course using this MINI Countryman? Hard Rock Hotel Penang was curious, and did just that. They stuffed all their staffs into the car, along with some very cute Miss Hard Rock Penang 2010 finalists. Yes, call that cheating or whatever since all the mickey lads are skin like sticks. But it’s still quite impressive.

And the final number? 14. Hopefully nobody goes to the 14th floor after this stunt.
